OEM Wheels for buyback?

Was there a clause in the proposed settlement with regards to aftermarket wheels/accessories? I know VW will not pay for items added by the owner but will there be a deduction if the vehicle is not returned with stock wheels.

For people that replaced their stock 18" wheels for something with a little better pothole resistance?

Thanks.

I think it just needs to be driven in under its own power. Which suggests it needs wheels, but no specific model of wheels. My car came with two sets of wheels. I am only returning it with the wheels actually on the car.

I'm keeping my OEM 17" wheels to use as winter wheels on my new GTI, and i'm returning the TDI with a set of 16" steelies with snow tires on them (but not for a year or two)

I have to find a set. MY OE 17s are on my mother's Tiguan. I put new Hakkapeliittas on her 16" wheels to run in last winter. I'm definitely keeping the 19" Audi wheels that are currently on it! Maybe 3 more compact spares? :)

Does anyone know for sure whether other wheels (I'm thinking '06 beetle winter steel wheels with 6 year old blizzacks on them) are OK?? Anybody know if these will fit? I'm keeping the beetle, but the buyback is coming right up for me next wednesday.

As long as the bolt holes line up you can put on square wheels so long as the engine starts and if you put it in gear it goes.......

I know that our JSW had to have 16" wheels. I was going to keep the Autobahn wheels with new tires, found some 15" steel with tires but they wouldn't clear the front calipers. Check the spare and that will give u a idea of the rim diameter needed.

I turned my car in on aftermarket Modas; if they even looked at the wheels they never mentioned them at all.

Our wheel selection started at delivery where we took a delete option credit for 16" Biolines. We didn't want the higher replacement cost and lower mpg associated with the 17" setup. Then, when we were nearing buyback time, we swapped the Boilines with their exceptional Pirelli P7 all-season Plus tires with our son in law for the 15" steelies with rag winter tires fitted on his '06 Jetta and stopped driving the Golf. Getting it to the dealer on the rag tires was an experience I'd rather not have to experience again!

Mine's going back on a rusty set of 15 inch steelies with worn out snows. Keeping the OE wheels with a fresh set of Hakkapelitta 8's for the GTI that has replaced the TDI.

I had the literal original wheels on my 2010. Holding on to their bare bones that's for sure.

Have people successfully turned in cars with not original steal rims/winter tires? I was thinking of keeping my rims for winter tires on my new golf.

I would like to swap out my 18" TSW Nurburgrings on the '14 Golf TDI, so that I do not turn in such nice wheels. I've posted ads to try and make a deal with someone, but no luck so far.

As long as you don't turn it in on 4 space-saver spares, you should not have any push-back.

I ended up turning my 11 Golf SEL in with 16 inch wheels with worn tires that I had bought as take off's for winter and kept my 17's with near new tires and they never said a thing

Actually, four space-savers would be perfectly fine. You just need wheels.

There have been reports here to the contrary, though whether it was a matter of a buyback rep just spouting nonsense, or whether cars were actually turned away, I don't recall.

OK, fair enough. 4 space savers might cause you issues. I know that 4 bald tires did not, but I didn't go to space savers when I did my turn in so I can't verify that one. ;)

Yeah, no reason bald tires would be a problem, but four donut spares could look like "stripping".

There's prolly an Y/N flag, from VW to the BBSpecialist - for the cars that could be possibly brought back, take a look around, for those destined for land fill, they dont really care.

You can run studded snows all year long in NH if you'd like, needless to say it feels really awkward driving slow in parking lots with temps in the 90s making all kinds of noise.

NH is knucklehead paradise. No seat belts, no liability insurance, no motorcycle helmets, all OK in the "granite head" state.
