Hello good people,
I just bought or soon to buy(tomorrow) a 1999.5 Jetta. The guy told me that the lock cylinder broke so he took it out and now uses a screwdriver to turn the ignition. I have seen a few writeups on replaceing the cylinder but my big question is this.
How do I replace it so my original key will still work in the ignition? Is that possible?
I think what has happened is the metal tab that goes into the cylinder, deep inside is broken off so it will not turn the ignition, hence the need for a screwdriver. I am not going to leave it this way. I just want to avoid the situation of having one key that works in the ignition and another that opens the doors and trunk (assuming someday the owner will have to open the doors with the actual key and not the FOB.)
