I am debating swapping my turbo out as it is off the car and my original turbo has some wheel damage and some slight shaft play; So...

Anyone know if this is really a VNT 17 turbo (GT1749v)

Not looking at price just the turbo itself as theres a local mechanic selling a GT179v for $700 with everything needed to bolt onto BEW

I just need help as im not knowledgeable when it comes to turbos

As far as I am aware, the GT1749V is actually a VNT15. The real VNT17 is the GT1749VB, which is OEM on the PD150 ARL engine. There is also the GT1749VA, OEM on the PD130 ASZ engine.

If you haven't purchased a turbo yet, here are some newer generation turbos to consider, since I hate to say it, but the VNT-17 turbo is probably a 15 year old turbo by now.

The latest generation turbo I would recommend going with is a GTD1752VRK or some shops have installed a larger compressor for a little more top end power.

Here are a few shops that offer them.

Then you have the GTB1756VK turbo which is 2 generations behind the GTD series turbo, but is a big step up from a VNT-17 or even a VNT-17/22.

These turbos will work with your car with just a tune, but will allow you to add some mods along the way should you wanna increase the power your car has. In my opinion it's a great way to futureproof your car, so pick the turbo that fits your budget and enjoy the additional power. :D
