I have a Golf 1999 TDI (old style) with 285K. It has been runnung fine lately until I tried cleaning the black residue in the EGR/Intake which goes to the intercooler too. Regardless of engine tempreture, it now rattles and shakes with no power in 1st or 2nd gears, but when I somehow revs it up to 4K, rattle and shaking disappears after a moment and drives fine with excellent power. Also, gives a huge smoke amount from underneath the hood(not from exahust) wheather cold or warm. The smoke disappears after a while. When I put the 1st gear, it just does not wanna pull and keeps shaking until I run for about 5min and do a high rpms again(4K rpm)!
Is it air leak, is it valve seals, is it a piston that gone bad? What could it be? ....Forgot to mention that it beebs and red handbreak light starts flashing when it start in the morning without the handbreak being used.
Does anybody have an idea?
