There are tons of these horror stories on the web. These crooks will just renew you at the top rate if you forget to cancel.

Not if you request a one time payment over the phone... they don't retain the credit card info so you can not be auto renewed. That is how I do it, I just wait until I get cancelled, then I call in and barter.

I was auto-renewed at the top rate on our credit card even though I was told twice that I was not set up for auto renewal. Filed a BBB complaint and was a pain-in-the-rear end dealing with the crooks at Sirius.

Lying bastards.

In the document they send you after you've signed up, or renewed, is a clause that specifically states that there will be an automatic renewal.

With the above in mind, I calendered the future renewal date for me to have an "heads up" on the issue.

Yup. It clearly states at the bottom of the letter that they will renew at the current rate. That's why we called to cancel auto-renewal, and this was confirmed at a later call. They charged our credit card anyway. Hundreds of complaints against Sirius' business practices.

All this is why I ask for an invoice and mail them a check. If they auto-renew, they're not getting a check and I call and tell them that. ;)

I do the same. Waiting on my bill to show up in the mail. $35 ish for 8 months with travel link. Just tell'em your not using a credit card. Sent'em a check the last 3 times I renewed.

I haven't had any problems renewing either. Usually about 10 minutes, even when I forgot to cancel one time and they auto-renewed. Since I renewed though, they cancelled the auto-renew rate and just charged me the discounted rate. Overall, it's not too bad spending 10 minutes every 5 months.

And I tell them the truth, being retired, it's just not worth the higher rates since I don't have a work commute and we're not really in the car that much.

This corporation is not different from any other corporation with the exception that they are trying to be profitable, unlike the banking/oil/big 3 auto etc era, etc era. So while their tactics of trying to get the most money out of each customer puts them in the same slime ball category as most of the other corporations that do the same thing but make billions in profits, they are just trying to survive.

The only reason the federal government allowed Sirius and Xm to merge is because they were failing and the anti monopoly status imposed on the original licensing agreement was waive to allow the product to survive.

Compare the cost to cable or satellite tv, the yearly subscription is a bargain for the entertainment value (there is a lot more there than music) at full retail price let alone the price that they are willing to give.

The secret is to not subscribe with your radio in your car but to buy a portable radio and use it at home and in the car. You don't have to buy the home and car kit just the car option and get a 110v to 12v converter to use it at home.

$24 for 6 months. I set my iPhone with a message to call and cancel about a week before the subscription expires.

Then we do the "dance" it usually takes about 10 min and I get another 6 months for $24.

Refuse to renew and wait for them to drop the offer to $24 for 6months and set the Iphone for cancel in another 6 months.

We will dance again in 6 months.

be safe

Yep last year I renewed for 1 year at half price, about $80 ... more than I wanted to pay. They would not give me a lower rate (on phone to renew). However just after I renewed last year for $80/12mo, I got the 6mo for $24 offer in the mail. DOHA!

This year I just canceled. Sure enough I got an email to renew, called back and did the deed....$24/6mo.... This is where I started about 3 years ago when I first go my VW with a trial Sirius....

YES BE SURE TO CANCEL or re-agoatiate B4 your contract expires or you will pay full price...

ALSO CALL ON THE PHONE NUMBER REGISTERED - IT HELPS KEEP THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

IF YOU CANCEL BE SURE TO GET CONFIRMATION.

I CANCELED ONCE, I DOUBLED CHECKED AND FOUND OUT THEY DID NOT CANCEL AS I REQUESTED. I HAD TO FIGHT THEM...

I had some warranty work done in October and I just received an offer from Sirius for two months of free service, no credit card required, as a result of that warranty work.

Uh huh, right.

Sirius has a free preview going on right now, till 12/5 I believe. I'll be calling about the two months for free after that time.

Just called them to cancel after receiving their bill for over $200 for a year.
They agreed to bill me for 6 months @ $24.99 and $12.00 for their travel link. So with taxes, fees came out to $42.83.

I never give them my credit card. Just ask them to send you a bill, which they are happy to do.

In the past they have messed up my billing quite a few times and I had to fight with then every time to get it cleared up so now when the free trial expires I let it drop. They still send me offer letters to renew. I just received the fourth offer in the last three months offering me a rate of $55 for a year.

I never activated my trial, but I guess the dealer did. They have never tried to contact me to subscribe. But have been thinking about getting the onyx, as we are about to go full time in the RV and it would be nice to have the same radio no mater where we are.

Just activated for $40 after taxes for 6 months+90 day trial. So nine months for $40. Trick is to let it lapse after the initial term, they start to get desperate after a month and the offers start coming every week. But what I found interesting is that they don't seem to track the offers so you can claim they offered almost any deal and they will find one to make you sign up. This recently worked for my big box store card, they gave me an extra 6 months not interest simply because I mentioned that another store offered 18 months...

That is because they did not have your contact info, it was likely under the dealer. Just call them, give them your name, address, radio number and email.... tell them you want a 6 month trial deal for $30 or $35. If they say no... hang up. They may give you some slight discount, just say no and hang up. Once they have your contact they will send the offers. They will come to you. I just did the dance. Make sure you note your cancelation date in your calendars and cancel before it expires, or it could auto renew. AT FULL PRICE!!!!

What "murphyslaw" said is true... let it expire. However this last time they coughed up a 5 month (not 6 month) for a fair price without much resistance. I went with it and took the 5 month deal, easy.... I put the drop dead date in my phone and work outlook calendars, with a week lead time.

Note: Try and make your calls to Sirus XM on the phone you have on file with your account, so they have record of you canceling. Once I canceled on a different phones. I called back again a few days later before drop dead date to confirm. Sure enough no record of canceling. When you call on the phone number your account is attached to, they will record it in their phone log. If it matches your account they should have record of you calling. Also make sure you get a confirmation email of cancelation. I went with it and took the 5 month deal, easy.... I put the drop dead date in my phone and outlook calendars, with a week lead time.

Also don't cancel too early if your intent is to keep the service and try and get a discount. If you cancel early and take a renewal, they stop plan that day. They do NOT start the new plan at the end date of old plan. They will credit your the balance and start new plan that day. If you cancel and don't settle on a renewal, the service stops immediately and you get a tiny check in the mail. I do it a week before. Also get your online account set up, so you can always check the details of your plan.

I called them a few weeks ago. About $43 for 6 months with Travel Link. I got the invoice and no mention of the Travel Link. I got their survey and mentioned the invoice issue. They called and the ist two specialists had no clue. On my third attempt, she understood what Travel Link was and sent a signal to enable it on my RNS-510. She then waved all charges for 6 months! I had already mailed in the $43, so we'll see what happens in Nov/Dec timeframe.

Sirius XM subscription rates 2017

I just got my bill from Sirius 36.66 including fees for 3 months. I believe my last was $36 including fees for 6 months. I made the customary call threatening cancellation/or asking for a better price.
The current options for "select" service are 1 year-$99 w/fees- $122. 6 months- $30 w/fees $37.17 and 5 months for $25 w/fees 30.87. I took the 6 month option and can't wait to make my next call in 6 months!

$31 for 6 months. I've been paying this for 6 six years. I have to call every 6 months, renew, and tell them to remove my card from their files. They always tell me I'll have to pay some stupid paper invoice fee, which I've never paid yet.

At six months, I call back and tell them I want the same rate as the last six, or I'm done. They always say that they no longer offer that rate, I tell them to cancel the service, and they always see what they can do. Usually this is the current promotion with some kind of statement credit that makes it even out to around $31.

I guess they can tell that if they try and charge more, I'm done with them. I wish they'd just auto renew at that rate. I really hate calling every six months.
