I have a 2.0 tdi that wont go over idle. It has a full rebuild including Franks TDI stage 2 cam. Frank also just rebuilt the head. So the top end is sound. The cam shaft position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor are new. Frank has had the car for awhile and can't figure out why it won't run over idle. It idles great just starts lugging and blows smoke as soon as you apply any throttle. Its still throwing the cam and crank sensor codes. Tried a new ecm and still the same problem. Any help is appreciated.

I assume you have checked all the turbo hoses. I have had this before when a hose was not fully seated.

A friends car was having similar issues and it ended up the turbo shaft had split in two and the broken off impeller was blocking the air flow but yours sounds like a fuel thing, sounds like it isn't getting enough or something.

Is there nothing at all showing up in vcds in measuring blocks? Like the maf, injectors, IQ etc?

Ps torsion value is cam timing, you use vcds to check where it's at then tweak the cam timing to get it in spec but I suspect Frank would have covered that.

Frank said it gets Its getting enough fuel. When it starts lugging it starts blowing black smoke. He says the fuel pressure is good. The only thing that is funky is that the cam a crank sensor engine code comes one. Also there are 3 wires, that nether him nor me can figure out where they would go. They are on the driverside close to the front they just dead end there.

Had you tried putting original crank/cam sensors back in?

What colours are the wires? Any pics of the connectors? I have had a lot of these apart, I will recognize them.

Do the crank and cam sensor codes set at key on, or do you have to start it to get them to set? What are the codes exactly? Open/short codes, or implausibility?
I'll call Frank tomorrow and get those for you. The car is still at his shop. he called me today.

Could possibly it be a throttle potentiometer wiring problem? have you tried disconnecting the MAF as a bad one can cause that exact problem? Leave it disconnected till you get it sorted out.

Strangely enough, a bad MAF on my car also threw a cam sensor code. Once disconnected, the cam code went away.

Check the harness out. Sometimes they can get pinched or damaged when doing major engine work like that. Also make sure there is no fluids in the connectors and sensors to short or add resistance.

Also try taking the intake pipe off of the intake manifold. Then try running it.

Is the air shut down flap fully open? No rags left in the intake system? No pieces of metal on magnetic pickups?
just some more ideas.

You should trailer it up to Cardoc Automotive ( Oilhammer) .

If he cannot fix it ( nobody can).

Thanks

The three wires are dark brown light brown and black.Alright, so i checked the harness from the crank speed sensor to the computer and its good. Bench tested the crank sensor it read 334.2 ohms. There was a 20 amp fuse under the dash that was blown. It was in the top right hand side. Replaced it same issue. The relay under the dash that keeps clicking is the fuel pump relay. All fuses are good. The glow plug light only flashes. Never goes off. when you turn the key on it says emissions work shop. the egr is set to run off road. Took intake pipe off at manifold. Same issue. Here is a video of the gauges when it acts up

I would love to take it to oilhammer and see if he can fix it. I'm just trying to see if i can get it without having to dump anymore into it.

I'd agree with quicktd . For bad connection/corrosion. I always start at the battery and work downstream. Take all connections apart, not just look at them, clean, protect with no-alox. I add a star washer to the ground studs.

Checked the ground under the reservoir one wasnt connected. Cleaned it and tightened back down. ABS now works. As for the ground on the passenger side ehere exactly is it located?

Alright thank you!! Its been a good minute since i had this thing apart and couldn't remember. I'm going to check this ground and if no change I'm thinging of taping into the brown wires on the 3 unknown wires and grounding them to see if that does anything

Alright so i need someone to go look at the wire that goes from the alternator to the starter. There is a connector that has 3 plugs on it close to the terminal on the starter. If you could please tell me what color those wires are.

No connector. I found a connector that has been capped off and was curious if that was where my mysterious wires went. I cut back the covering and i was wrong its not brown brown black. Its brown/grey, brown/black, and brown

They are in the same lum as the glow plugs. The black/brown connects with terminal 19 on the large connector to the ecm. The soild brown is ground. It might be to my glowplug controler?

It does not have climate control. When it acts up the anti-Slip Regulation light turns on for a second then goes off. If you do it multiple times it stay illuminated. Every second time it lugs the glow plug light illuminates like it would when you turn the key switch on. Maybe the key switch??
