I have a 2001 Jetta with 11,000 miles on it
this morning I notice when taking off on a
hill black smoke comming from the exhust also
when going thru gears I do not hear the
normal turbo whine, also seems down on power.
Is it posible my turbo is not working,I would
be thankful for any help with this

You may have a blown turbo.

Make sure your oil level is okay and get it to the dealer asap. Maybe call them up, tell them what happened, and they'll send a tow truck. This is what your warranty is for.

It might not be the turbo. It might be something that restricts or measures the engine air flow. But why take chances.

I'd imagine a blown turbo would light a CEL.

MAF failure would cause the turbo to not give as much boost, but doesn't always light the CEL.

My 01 Jetta did the same thing a few days ago. ODO at 17k and started out as normal
but with no power! No turbo? Cel did not
come on until after a few miles. But now it's
on steady. I do believe it to be a MAF failure. Vag-Com will confrm later this week.
Turbo should be good, unless deprived of oil.
