Ive done a bunch of brakes on these rigs but am a bit stumped.
2000 jetta 5 speed. replaced booster about 4 months ago
Time to service brakes .not a daily driver
found all wheels binding up.did Standard pads rotors pins cables
replaced rear calipers with a couple of used ones i had.
they Wind back well and the e brake mechanisms were working well
front calipers working well
bled rears. now three calipers seem to back off ok (catching a bit)
left rear is not backing off (but winds back well)
wondering if this sounds like an caliper internal problem
or possibly master issue
thanks

If all your wheels are binding I'd suspect the master cylinder but since you said you replaced the booster I think it's the combination of the two. When the brake pedal is released, the master cylinder pistons have to be completely unloaded so the port to the reservoir is uncovered to remove all pressure from the calipers. On one of my other no VW cars when I replaced the booster I had to measure the MC piston depth and adjust the booster rod carefully to allow the MC to completely unload.

Not sure if this is applicable on the MK4. The other thing is what sets the pedal height? Is it the brake switch? Perhaps it's not adjusted correctly and not letting the MC unload.

If it's not unloading you'll have more of the binding problem the hotter the fluid gets.
