brake pad wear sensor

just put new aftermartket brake pads in my 00 jetta tdi. the light is still on. They have the wear sensor on them. Does this mean i need to reset on computer or by some funky key turn trick? or should it automatically reset the light when new pads are plugged in? Could it be short? or is there a way to just wire them together or cut wires and get rid of light on dash. Just got jetta tdi, new to the vw clan. please help. thanks ben
