Just picked up my 2012 Passat SEL TDI. Great Car!!!
I remember the old TDI's would require a 5k oil change then 10K there after.
Is it a correct statement that the 2012 Passat TDI is a 10K first oil change. (This is my first new TDI in 7 years).

First oil change at 10k and every 10k after. You will get a lot of responses warning you about the correct oil. (I think it is 507 spec but someone will correct the numbers). Take their advice. great car, I have 1,500 miles on mine and liking it more every mile.

Good, Now lets see how fast you can get to the 10k mark.

I'm figuring on about 8 weeks to 10k for mine. 1 week down, 7 more to go (1554 when I parked at work this am).

Please read the manual. You need a 507.00 oil that you will find only comes as a 5W30. 507.00 is backwards compatible with 505.01 if you want to run a 5W30 in your other vehicle requiring 505.01. Some 507.00 oils are also MB 229.51 approved.

I can't read the manual yet since my car is just being built. :)

I learned that the 2005 Passats MUST have the 5w40. Used Oil Analysis and visual inspection of the cam proved this weight is necessary for the 2005's, so I am stuck with 5W40 for the 505.01.

I just needed to confirm the new one was 5w30 which means Pentosin Super Performance III for the new car and the Jeep, so only 2!

Thanks for the information.

Have you done any Used Oil Analysis to see how it performs?
Actually, I ran the dealer Castrol SLX until the service at 40,000 miles when I switched to the Pentosin. I've run two UOAs out of curiosity so far, and may run one with the Pentosin just to see how things are coming along. However, the $25 charge for the analysis is a bit much to pay for curiosity.

It's not uncommon for the rate of iron accumulation to drop with extra miles on the oil. ppm/1000 miles is how I evaluate the results. This is one of the reasons why it's not a great idea to change oil more frequently than recommended by the manufacturer.
