I did a search and couldn't find it (I am sure someone will post like 5 links) but what is a fair price to get this done? I got a quote of $1,100 from dealer less a $100 coupon. There are a few independents here in Reno, I will make calls today but all things being equal, I would just be happy to have the dealer but I just need to find what is within reason. If anyone has experience with Indies in Reno, let me know.

my local dealer guessed $1300. DC area independent $1000.

My local guru gets $800. That is definitely on the low end. My local dealership uses the mark and pray technique and charges over 1000. No brainer for me.

Just had my local guru do a timing belt change for me. He has all the tools and everything was done properly. Cost me less than $900 out the door with tax.

Hahaha, they aren't as high as you'd think, and still way better than sales / income tax combo.

I looked at property there and it was about 3mil (3%). I will take my Nevada 1mil (on purchase price) and 8% tax rate and no state income tax plus the better weather. I will say you have better seafood.

Philpug,

Please post some feedback, as I am also in Reno. I just had my 80k DSG service done by Automotion. I'm looking ahead to my Timing Belt Change and want to find a competent shop.

Thanks!
Steve

This is going to sound very ignorant (apologies) but what makes a CR belt change so much more expensive than say an ALH ??

I had a bad experience with Automotion in Reno recently, $500 just for labor for a 70K fluid change and fan belt is a bit much.
Looking for a better shop in Reno or Carson City..

If you are not afraid to work on the car, total for parts & specific tools is about $500. I have done two TDI's so far with no issues.

The biggest pain is just getting to the timing belt, lots of stuff in the way.
