I am curious if anyone has purchased and installed one of these turbos? I know they are an alternative to the PD140 turbo, but I would like to hear how "plug and play" are they and if install was straight forward.

The gtb1749v is already pnp on the pd140 what you need to fit is a new down pipe and the new pipea from ic to the turbo.

PD140 turbo is a GT1646v, smaller than a stock BRM i think? Never had a BRM turbo in my hands to measure

I've done a few of them. They run fantastic with a Stage 4 tune, spools like stock and pulls hard! You'll need the braided oil feed line from Ryan also. Other than that it's a direct swap.

Awesome. It'll be on my list for when I do a manual swap. Maybe turboback too. It's gonna be pricey.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have been running a Darkside gtb1749v for a while now and I think it is the ideal turbo for a BRM. I'm tuned with a Malone 24 psi on stock injectors and it has great early spool and plenty of power. Took some rod adjustment to get it boosting properly but its got great response now around 1800 rpm. Only thing that would make it better would be bigger injectors at 26 psi and supporting mods. I think most of us love the low rpm torque and responsiveness TDI's are known and this turbo retains this quality without having to go to compounds or losing lose end response with the bigger frame turbos.

Glad to hear it, they are the best bolt on for sure.

What did you finally set the actuator to, In/HG? we never adjust them when we fit to cars here but we usually have the big injectors already.

Speak soon

The adjustment was mainly because I ran a tune for the stock turbo with the 1749. When I finally got the proper tune I had to readjust. Otherwise I probably would not have had to mess with it.
