Hello,
I've recently noticed a grinding/scraping noise from the area of the left rear wheel on my 1999.5 Mexican Jetta. It happens in particular when braking, or when making left-hand turns.
My first thought is that I need new pads/rotors, second thought is wheel bearings. I'm going to pull the wheels off this evening and see how the pads and rotors look. Any suggestions as to how to check the bearings, or what else to look at while I've got the wheels off?
Also, should I go OEM on pads and rotors? Impex has Brembo and ATE rotors, and I'd happily spend a bit extra to get rotors that don't warp during the lifetime of the pads. I can't stand warped rotors.
