I'd say the fabrication is the easy part. Tuning them to do what you want proves to be the more difficult [read: time consuming] proposition. Foukhest build would be a prime example of this....top notch fabrication (I actually have his compound manifold setup now ) but never dialed in the tuning. Ended up parting out and moving onto something else.

That's what I was meaning, apologies if I was misleading with the "setup" part.

Ok, after evaluation I think my new path will be:

Acquire BEW engine
Bore out for BHW Pistons
Lower horsepower goals

This allows me to build a very stout engine with the potential to eventually go dual stage if I so please at a later date.

Subb'ed, sort of on the same path, just not 250 worth,

If you buy used BHW pistons, which I did, rings are impossible to find, I had to have some made but still miles cheaper than the dealer, which wanted $800 for rings,

Aye - why not start off with a complete BHW to begin with seeing how cheap you can buy whole donor cars close to you??

You can swap the whole BHW engine and move over some parts from your ALH, e.g. oil pan, etc. Jimbote did a thorough write up here:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=308134

The complete swap will be much simpler if you have a donor car because you'll also need the ECU and engine harness, not just the longblock, to operate the PD injection system. If you're putting on an ALH head, it's easier from the ECU standpoint and you also move over the injection pump bracket and crank position sensor wheel from the ALH.

@FraggyTDI, if you sell your 11mm pump, you'd be already well on the way towards buying one of the Passats listed with the BHW engine. Put in suitable injector nozzles, GTB2060VLKR or GTD2060VZ turbo and a remap and you can be at 250 HP without any engine internal upgrades!!

Yup this is the path I'm going down at the moment. I have the VNT 17 up for sale, the pistons and rods block and 11mm pump. I should be able to get the whole car using all that money. I'm going to try and low ball the 800 passat since i would have to tow it back.

But I'll probably still rebuild all the internals so I can choose to step up at any time.

Would you do a balance shaft delete? I know this was a thing on the audi 2.0t's but usually had issues after the delete.

Sold enough parts to go buy a passat. Anyone want any parts from it?

Nardo Grey is my favorite color as of late. I would consider wrapping mine, but I'm a car detailer and I put SO MUCH work into my 2004 paint (to demo my skills to customers), so I can't wrap it. I've gotten most of my business from people stopping me on my car.

I keep going back and forth between wrapping it or painting it. I love the color, it has so much depth I guess you would say. It's matte without being matte if that makes sense.
