finished mechanical pump un 1z tdi motor and installed it in a 98 golf gasser body. been driving car since january. just hit 10,000 miles since conversion. discovered lots of helpful tips for this conversion. first thing, used crank sensor for gasser tach. added 12volts to red wire, grounded black, ran green to tach. only problem crank has 4 notches so tach is rpm 2x. idle shows almost 2k,3k shows 6k. throttle cable is from 84 diesel rabbit with pedal end modified. exhaust will meet into gasser. used gasser gearbox, which mean had to use gasser flywheel,clutch,pressure plate and starter. radiator is the same , but must use tdi hoses, (route differently ).added 7 second glow plug relay from a rabbit diesel and wired it to the check engine light. removed ecm used fused power wire for pump fuel cutoff. removed egr ran a piece of radiator hose from turbo to intake manifold. not running an intercooler yet. trying to find one or make one fit.
mechanical pump. used one from a 1.6 td motor. played with the enrichment valve, turned up idle slightly, turned up the power adj. slightly.car pulls nicely. trans turns 3k@ 69mph, sort of high for a tdi setup. mileage has been between 37-40. i drive mosty highway @ 75-80mph. if i keep it under 70mph i get over 40. hoping mileage will go up with a intercooler. if anyone has any advise for me, please write me
