1.9 TDI Occasional Miss?

I have a 2006 1.9 Tdi that has something akin to a miss fire from time to time.
It's not really specific to engine speed, but appears more often at 2000 rpm, and occasionally off idle once first gear is engaged. The tdi is a recent acquisition, and I have no real previous history, other than it had regular vag services. Has 93k on the clock. Any hint at what to look for? Thanks

I would ensure that the pressure regulator is working properly and maintaining desired fuel pressure. It's near the high pressure pump in the return line.
