Hi... I recently purchased a 2011 Touareg TDI. Lately I’m hearing a whining while driving. Seems to be power steering noise. Any ideas how to check fluid and/or flush? Could it be something else?

Sure it's not coming from the passenger seat?

PS will usually whine first under worst case scenarios, like lock to lock steering at low speeds. Would check the reservoir to make sure it's at a reasonable level.

Best to go over all the fluids/dealer PPI on a newer purchase.

You'll have to find the PS fluid reservoir. If VW colors them all the same, it will be a small-ish black container with a green top. To check the fluid, unscrew the top while the engine is running and take a look at the dipstick that is attached to the top. That is assuming it isn't using electric power steering assist. That is something that is happening to some cars and makes. VW is adopting it, but I have no idea when that started and what vehicles use it, so take this as the caveat that what I just wrote might be complete garbage and useless to you.

Sorry, it is the best I can do on the web. Good luck!

Cheers,

PH
