Vagcom Lap top or desk top?

I am getting ready to purchase the vagcom computer program. I was wondering if there are any adjustments or settings that the vagcom does while the car is in motion and requiring a lap top, or can I just move my old outdated desktop to the garage and use it there?

Either will work. Though a laptop is easier. The desktop will have to be put somewhere. If you had it on a rolling cart with a long extension, no problem.
