Hello everyone. I am going to do it! I am going to buy that TDI!

Now, a question that I had was concerning the car tax in california.

1. is there anyway that I can qualify for exemption on this car tax?

2. does buying a used car in another state mean that i have to pay taxes for both states?

3. I dont want to totally evade taxes if it means doing something illegal, but i have heard about putting a lesser amount on the sales receipt or title that way dmv will base car tax off of that. Have people had experience with that method? Is it foolproof?

Just register the car in California and you have to pay tax on the purchase price of the car. If you registered it in another state, you don't have to pay taxes twice. Registering the car in another state would require a living address other than California.

Anyone correct me if I am wrong.
