I just picked up a 2015 GSW DSG.

We were looking to replace our aging Mazda5 and a used 2016 TSI GSW was on our shopping list. With the discount, warranty and our driving patterns the diesel made a lot of sense.

As I've been reading the posts about new owners it seems quite a few are first time diesel owners. I'm curious to know the #'s, though granted it will be skewed to previous diesel owners since this is a TDI forum after all.

I voted...its my first diesel road vehicle....since I'm assuming you didn't mean tractors and dump trucks. :)

Ha!

Yeah, those don't count. Though if you've ever driven your tractor to the grocery store I might make an exception.

Picked up my sister from middle school in a dumptruck!! Lol. Honestly I like these fancy quiet road diesels. Torque and MPGs...I've always been interested in them but was always hesitant to make the jump.

Your last poll option isn't that realistic. TDIs have only been available for 20 years. So "long before you were born" seems unlikely.

Obviously.

It was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek comment. Colloquial, if you will.

I understand. That's why I picked it. :D For the record, my first diesel (and first new car) was a '78 Rabbit L Diesel. Loved that car, wish I still owned it.

So, technically you've been driving diesels before I was born.

This is also my first VW after two Mazdas. I like the way they drove but hated the suspension clunks (damn you endlinks) and the premature rust.

Interesting that it's about an even split.

Still have a 2004 Beetle TDI along with my 2015 GSW. Its going to my sister soon though I think. 2004 is manual. 2015 is DSG. I really like the DSG. Don't know if it'll be as trouble free as the manual. It's worth the high service costs if it stays at that...

My second TDI, but I've owned the 2000 for 6 years. No option for that.

Our 1st was 1981 Chevy Caprice Station wagon great car crap engine....
Wow. I had no idea they came in a diesel.

My dad had an early 80's wagon with the V8. I have fond memories of riding in the jump seats.

Really enjoying the GSW so far. The amount of cargo space for its footprint is spectacular. And that it drives like a car is icing on the cake.

My father had a GM pickup with the Olds diesel engine in the early 80's, he is still boycotting all things GM!

It was the Oldsmobile converted Gasoline engine that was available across the GM mid size and full size line in the early 80's and basically destroyed Diesel engines in the USA

Fourth TDI for me. See sig.

I had my first two at the same time, then went about five years without one, got the 2012 and traded it because of some poor oil test results (which I regret because I lost out on the buyout), went another four years without a TDI until Tuesday and am loving being back. I am hoping to run this TDI for at least a couple of hundred thousand miles. Two trips to Canada are on the schedule this summer, so it's about to get some work.

I feel really good about the GTI/TDI combo in my driveway. It allows me to get out some workday stress in the GTI on the back roads in the evening and weekends and then I can dedicate the TDI to business like commuting and trips and focus on mileage and driving sanely - lol. Today was a prime example. Did my 100 mile round trip for work in the TDI getting 56 mpg on the display. Got home, ate dinner, and took the GTI on a loop to the beach and wore it out.

2002 Jetta Auto that I sold because people on this forum said the O1M automatic was not reliable but the guy that bought it is still driving it 7 years later and never had a transmission problem.
2009 Jetta Manual sold back to VW because the price was right and it had 110000 miles and 3 bent rims.
2015 Jetta S DSG couldn't pass up the deal. It's the best car I have ever driven!

I have a 2015 GSW DSG and love it. Its the first car I haven't had "buyers remorse" on after the purchase in a long time. I have that with any "big" purchase...
I have had some AMG cars that was simply fantastic and what I'd consider the "best", bit I am not willing to fork out that kind of money any more.

Lets see.. guess I am on TDI #5 since 2003

2000 NB TDI 5m, put 40k on that
2001 Golf GL TDI 5m, put 30k on that,
2003 Jetta Wagon TDI 5m, put 80k on that one, and just sold it this week
2001 Golf GL TDI 5M (#2), have put 64k miles on that one, keeping it for my 16 year old to drive.
2015 GSW TDI S DSG, have put 1600 miles or so on it this month.. lol.

Started with a '13 Jetta TDI, 6spd manual.
Now I own a '15 Jetta TDI SE, 6spd manual.

The '13 has, by far, been my favorite car. It will be very difficult to give it up, even after having purchased the '15. I've babied it for 90,000 miles and have had no problems. I'm still on the original battery & brake pads, too. Averaging close to 50 MPG over the life of the car.
