2002 Golf GLS TDI
SOLD SOLD SOLD

Location: Wilmington, NC
Price: $4,500 $4,300 $4,100 $4,000
Model: 2002 Golf TDI GLS
Mileage: 278,000
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Exterior color: Black
Interior color: Black (cloth)

For sale here is a 2002 VW Golf TDI GLS. This is the ALH engine with the 5-speed manual transmission. Car has AVERAGED 47mpg over the last 100k miles with multiple tanks of 50mpg+ and over 700 miles. Vehicle has 278k miles but is in very good mechanical condition. I have meticulous service records for the last 120k miles (since I've owned it). Car blew a timing belt right before I bought it and was rebuilt (details below in maintenance history) - has run flawlessly since. I bought this car when I had a long commute and drove a lot for work but now I work a mile from my house and have a dedicated work vehicle so I've moved on to a newer car. This is the absolute highest mileage car in the US other than MAYBE a Prius which is not as much fun to drive I assure you.

Power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Defrost side mirrors. I have one keyless entry remote/key and one separate key so two total.

Car is black with black cloth interior. Paint is in decent overall shape with some scratches and minor dings. Long straight scratch down passenger side from a garage incident. Hood and front bumper are the worst parts of the car - lots of paint chips on bumper, a few rust spots on hood and clear coat fading badly. Overall I give the exterior a 6/10 but 8/10 given the age and mileage. Interior is a 7/10 but 9/10 given the age and mileage.

After being put on the lift recently for the new tires, the full extension if the shocks caused them to seize since they were about 100k miles old. As a result, the car currently rides very rough - up until that point it's always been very smooth and comfortable. The struts and shocks will need to be replaced.

Everything works on this car and there are several extras:
-Audi Fat Five 17x7.5" wheels
-iPod/Bluetooth adapter for stock sound system
-Trailer hitch and wiring harness
-Roof rack crossbars
-Panzer plate (aluminum "skid" plate to protect oil pan)
-Retrofit Bi-Xenon HID projector headlights w/ 4500k bulbs (white, just like high-end vehicles, not blue)
-FrostHeater block heater
-BRAND NEW tires (Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2, 224/45-R17)
-520 Bosio Injector Nozzles
-New center console w/ cup holders so the front has 4 cup holders (two in dash, not broken like most are)
-Rubber floor mats

Scratch (hitch carrier was leaning against car and my wife drove it forward like 8 feet so it's a nearly perfectly straight scratch):

I already have as many Golfs as I need, but not as many as I want. Yours seems like a pretty good one for a decent price. Good luck with the sale.

All TDI's - No gassers! Luxo-Tourer = 13 Passat (hands down, the nicest car we've ever owned), Most fun = MK4 Golf

Thank you, I hope I hear from you!

Additionally...PRICE DROP to $4,300!
We have an appointment tomorrow to take his Jetta TDI in for the insurance estimate and we'll go from there...

If it turns ugly this is definitely one of the TDIs we'll consider. We also have friends in Wilmington, NC so there is an added bonus to this one...

Since the car spent a lot of time in northern climates before you bought it... is there any rust?
Surprisingly, no! My wife's 4Runner spent a while in Indiana and is literally rusting away but the coating they put on this VW is doing it's job and then some. It was on a lift a couple months ago and the only signs of rust underneath are on the exhaust parts and it's not bad. I'm happy to take specific pictures of any areas you'd like to see.

Looks like the insurance is going to attempt to repair the car, so we won't be buying anything new for my son as of now...
