"Official" TE Connectivity connectors <-> VW repair wire listing thread

so i've been meaning to do this for a while, finally going to stop procrastinating and just start :D

i will work on keeping this first post updated, with VW pn#s as well, as i go through the connectors i have, and continue to look for more. also, i want to create a nice html table listing of this, with thumbnails, etc.

so here's a simple listing to get started, with a link to the product in mouser, which i've found to generally be cheaper than digikey for these things. some connectors i haven't figured out where to find, at least in quantities that a normal person can order... also, there are a number of variations of each connector, sometimes with no visible difference, so i generally have just picked out the cheapest one and found it to be adequate... if you find any errors, please point them out.

as far as a crimper, i'm still looking for a moderately priced, good one. i have been using this cheap $30 sargent, which works decently enough, but you need to fiddle a little bit to get a nice crimp depending on the intended gauge of the connector and the wire. i just bought a klein VDV200-010 with the open-barrel die, but not sure how i feel about it yet...

some i marked with an asterisk because i either i haven't ordered the pn# or i lost the pn# but am guessing as to which one i thought it was. as far as wire seals, i need to order more and make sure. diagrams, pdfs' etc aren't cooperating.

Very useful information. But I would like to see a cross reference with the original VW numbers.

Example

It's easier to know what to get when using Etka. Keep on the good work!

yes, i am working on that :) although what i have provided so far gives you the wire gauge (most importantly), so, most likely if you are looking at this that is all you need to know aside from what type of connector it is.

but yes, i intend to make a pretty version at some point and confirm more pn#s. just very busy, and sometimes hard to keep track of all the connectors i have... :/

also, i am working on making my own fuse/relay box. for lack of a better term i am calling it ce3.

wish i could find a good crimping die for a decent price. the klein crimper i got sucks. the ratcheting frame is perfect. the dies suck tho. totally useless :( that's another subject, but suffice to safe, do not buy it, it's basically worthless.

The gauge measurement is in inch? The metric system is quite common also :). I think the best way would to create a wiki page where we can put all data. Do Tdiclub have a wiki?

for the connectors, i used american wire gauge. i'll fill in the metric gauge at some point. tdiclub did have a wiki at some point i thought, but it never really took off.

also, i got my free sample of the TE 68-pin connector (shipped direct from germany via DHL - along with some other samples) :D and it is indeed the same connector for the ahu/1z ecu (the 09A TCM uses this as well).

Hey burpod!

I'm going to order about $150 worth of stuff for work, (sick of paying a bunch for repair wires when just fixing the last bit of the wire will be sufficient). Plus I am adding leveling motor/redo my fog wiring and lift pump wiring for my car.

Look likes alot of stuff works with saabs, which will be mighty helpful since saab stuff gets kinda flaky to buy.

only $150? :p if you look through some of the PDF catalogs i linked in the first post, you may find some saab connectors. i showed a buddy of mine some of the free samples i got from TE, and he thought one of the connectors i ordered looked exactly like some of the kind saab uses.

Well pretty much I'm ordering some male female micro timer connectors, male, male offset and female junior timer. 3 types of timer female, offset and male timer and a ton of different seals. pretty much 25 of each, should keep me good for a month at least :)

Rumor has it the paladin 1300 ratcheting frame with 2300 model dies work sweet, I have ordered them and will let you know!

Too bad the te connectivity crimper is soooo expensive

The paladin crimper with 2033 dies works excellent, I might need another die for ecu pins ect....

Hey burpod, what what the part number of the mk4 style relay holders they had on clearance?
Nevermind same ones at certain reseller, damn I'm gonna order a bunch!

Also anyone find number for EDC 16/17 large and small ecu pins (the small are used for rear fog on mkv etc too)?

i will try and help out in the next few days if i can, but if you download the PDFs, it's fairly obvious which ones you want, as long as you know what they look like

Trust me I've spent hours looking for that one, its the only one I could never find. There's one pdf I downloaded that has all of the Tyco connector systems in it and they don't seem to be in there, even after looking through it twice.

I've found multiple places where people said it was 963715-1 but it is not! It's used in the cluster connectors, slip ring connectors, auto dimming mirror, interior monitoring sensors etc.

If you can find it I'll paypal you $20 lol.

Here's a picture:

If I had one to take measurements from I would do more research, after doing some digging on mouser I *think* I have kind of narrowed it down for you.

http://www.mouser.com/TE-Connectivi...hb5?P=1z0yy6bZ1z0x3z6Z1z0z4xuZ1z0y5p4Z1yzs6ii

BTW

EDC16/17 small pins 963715-5 (gold plated)

EDC16/17 big connectors for power and ground = 968851-1 (tin) or 968851-3 (silver plated)

I don't think that's it. I'll bring one to work tomorrow and measure it with a caliper for you.

Edit: I don't think your link actually worked. It just took me to a search result and I clicked on the first one.

Ok so the terminal is rectangular. If the top is where you place the wire and crimp it, the tip is approximately 1.52mm wide by 1.77mm tall. The whole terminal is about 14.7mm long. There is one barb on the side of the terminal that you can see in the picture.

Ill do some research. I pretty much just went to mouser under "automotive connectors" and chose rectangular, crimp style, te connectivity etc
