When doing the First Stage of the "FIX"~ do both owners have to be there to start?

They provided her a loaner (a Passat I believe) for the afternoon, and our Golf was like the 4th one they had done (this was in the first week or 2 the fix was available). Generally happy with the fix. It is using more DEF ( before the fix, we had NEVER seen the "need to refill DEF" alert).
