I keep hearing about it and im not sure what it stands for. IM guessing something that has to do with air flow. Also where is the MAF locatd on the car and how to check it if it needs to be cleaned.

The sensor works on the principle that the resistance of an electrical wire will vary according to its temperature.

The air going through the sensor cools the wire thus changing its resistance. Combined with air temperature reading (from the intake air temperature sensor), the ECU/ECM (the brains running your car) calculates the density of air entering the engine. Taking into account the known given volume of air that can pass through the MAF at a given temp, it knows the actual quanity of air going in.
