While getting new tires and an allignment a few weeks ago, I was told that my axle was "severely" out of place, and I would A) need a new or used axle put on, or B) find a specialist who could straighten my current axle.
I have no idea how it got like this. I purhchased it used back in August with a clean CarFax from a VW Dealership. The auto place who did my tire replacement, and the place where I got a second opinion both said that there appears to be no sign of a serious accident, but they couldn't explain what else would cause this problem.
Anyway... Does anyone have any recomendations as to where I can bring my Beetle to get it fixed?

Thanks!

I have seen those rear axles bend from simply sliding into a curb wrong, sometimes if it is just the rear toes that off therre is enough movement in the axle to get the toe equal; on both sides and be acceptable. If the camber is off then replacemnt is the onlt alternative.

Here in MN we have had a mechanical GTG, maybe we should have a social GTG with the better halfs? Nothing too crazy. Happy to host at our place again in an attempt to save dough. Could go out to a smoke free pub but prices get pretty high.

Thoughts?
What about a BBQ at a park? mabey we could get a permit and have a parking lot closed off so everyone could park inb the same area?

Yes. Unless you start taking interest in your wife's hobby and get involved with it, then no.

yup Will is the owner, I am the service manager, and we meant that in a very good way! We were very impressed with your unique approach to this business. We simply meant that some of your customers, may be our potential customers. We do our fair share of TDI timing belts and your knowledge of what to replace and being able to do the Job right is very impressive! We both know most shops do not do these jobs right including the dealers!

I hear that.
In any conversation or context, my wife refers to my TDI as "you mean your girlfriend?" - and don't get the idea that she says it with any excitement.

I guarentee she has similar disdain for you all, just by association with me. ;)

Does anyone here plan to go to the Kansas City GTG later this month, or the Michigan one over Memorial Day weekend?

I'm considering it, probably won't be able to make a decision until the last possible second.

I was planning on KC, Saturday if possible for a day trip. Might have to be Sunday but I'd still try and go.

Richfield biodiesel

Since this seems to be an active Minnesota discussion, does anyone know what happened to the biodiesel at the Lyndale Ave. Pump-n-munch? I filled up once in fall, and things went okay, but I got nervous because temps were headed south. The last time I went by there, the pump was covered in plastic tape and not functioning. It's really the only pure biodiesel play in the area, but I've had enough repairs on my Jetta without cloggin the fuel system.

Greetings:

I just found the Minnesota thread. I have an 06 Jetta, 6700 miles, spice red.

I have posted a couple other times, especially re: my fuel related problems. I also have an airbag light on and will have it in the shop next week.

Question for you locals: Anyone have a problem with stuttering under load? I just can't get the power out of it that I did up until I got what I thought was a bad batch of fuel in mid-January. 1500 miles, three tanks and temps now up to 50F, and my car is better, but still struggling under load. I just had it out today, Sunday, on 169 and as long as I took it easy it was fine. No indicator lights and mileage is 38.7, average I am told for cold weather and 6700 miles.

What are my options:
Wait until it gets to 90F and hope the bad fuel burns off?
Change the fuel filter?
Put in more fuel stablizer?

Thanks,

John

It's winter and they probably didn't like the idea of customers having to scoop B100 into their fuel tanks. :p Seriously, untreated 100% bio has "issues" at Minnesota winter temperatures. The Apple Valley Marathon shuts down its outside B20 pump, too, though I thought I remembered reading somewhere that you can still get B100 inside the store (I'd call before I dashed down there).

If you haven't changed the fuel filter since the stuttering started, definately do that. I had some problems during the cold snap too; but between an O.D. of fuel treatment, and a new fuel filter, the stuttering stopped abruptly. When I changed the filter, I drained the canister to be sure ANY water was removed (something I had failed to do on previous fuel filter changes).

Agree with CADtechTDi. Fuel filter change is good first step. I've never had problems, but I'm usually pretty careful where I fill up, and if it is dubious, then I add some additive. Your mileage seems good, assuming an automatic. Since I tried B100 (not in winter), I carry an extra fuel filter on board. Can't be too careful out there. Bauer's was $2.77. I was fondly remembering when it was $22 to fill my tank.

And what's with everyone hiding their diesel prices? Holiday put in a fancy electronic gas sign, and you have to go to the pump to check prices these days.

I filled up there in January before the cold snap and within a few miles my new TDI was running rough under load. As it got very cold it was bucking pretty hard. I thought it was unwinterized fuel, added an anti gel, pumped the tank but when it got warm it didn't completely go away until I changed the fuel filter just tonight. Now it's back to it's new self.

Thanks to all for the support.

As far as stations in the downtown Minneapolis area are concerned, T & Y's, IIRC, sells a fair amount to delivery trucks, so that may be a reasonable option, and they are usually quite a bit less than Bobby & Steve's. T & Y's is located near the new ballpark site, incinerator, bus garage, etc.

Bio for MN

New to the forrum and new 06 Jetta tdi. I believe that diesel fuel is 2% and gas is 10% on it way up to 20%.

I normaly get my gas from either Kwik here in Southeastern MN or at Holiday along I-35. I live in Kasson and work in Faribault.

Ha, we have the opposite commute. I'm in Faribault and work at Mayo.
What percentages are you talking about? 10% of RUG being ethanol?

So far I've yet to find any pumps with a higher blend than the state mandated B2, but the Cenex stations might have the best chance to get bio straight before it gets blended in to the storage tanks for our area. Might have to buy into the co-op, I was gonna wait until winter thawed a bit first and then try for B20.

I check in quite often at www.sundaysenergy.com which supplies biodiesel to retail locations in the Twin Cities. They told me that the Lyndale Pump-N-Munch failed to pay for roughly 7000 gallons of biodiesel, so obviously they got pulled.

Sundays Energy is looking for other retail locations and are asking for community help in convincing local retailers that biodiesel is a good decision. Check out their website and drop a note at one of their suggested refueling sites. They also offer training sessions on how to make your own biodiesel. I haven't been to one yet, but they seem like they'd be cool.
