Been a while since ive posted.
My 02 alh jetta that i have put a 3inch exhaust, vnt17plus turbo, egr delete, 2" intercooler plumbing, kerma upgraded intercooler, and r520's, and kerma custom tuning is soon getting swapped out. The engine only has 235xxxkm's....
However everything is getting moved over to another alh engine at 207xxxkm's thats in enginetech's machine shop.
Soooo im almost out of ideas....
All said and done the engine will have:
-vnt 17plus turbo
-r520 injectors
-3" turboback exhaust
- 2" intercooler plumbing
-kerma smic
-egr delete
-integrated engineering rods
-11mm fuel pump
-Colt stage 3 camshaft
-port and polish
-bored out to the next size
-forged pistons/crank(maybe? Will it need them?)
Current crank is out by 3 thou
Bore was out by 2thou
The valves are good it just need valve guides
Its getting a timing belt kit, all seals/gaskets are
Being redone. Sooo to my questions now.....what numbers can one expect? Any steps or limits to put in place to avoid destroying this engine? What can i do to push the limits more? All opinions appreciated??

it sounds like you'll run out of air before anything else.
Bigger turbo needed?
What clutch do you have?

Standard crank is fine, if you're over 200whp I'd upgrade the rods.

I know I'm a little late to the game, but like Owain and others have mentioned that if you're looking to make more power, then it's time to upgrade your turbo. If you're looking for a good option, then look into getting a turbo from Pioneering Performance. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=493912
Or check out their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pioneeringperformanceltd/

Otherwise if you're still looking for the responsiveness of the VNT-17, then consider the GTD1752VRK turbo that is rated for 190 hp from the factory.

Another thing I would upgrade, would be that SMIC to a FMIC and since you already upgraded your intercooler piping. I would go with a same side in and out to try and utilize the piping you already have.

Good luck with your build and hopefully you can pick a turbo that suits your needs.

I agree choking point would be your turbo, I would go with GTD1756VRK instead of GTD1752VRK, you can get around 240hp with supporting mods, 1756VRK, spools quick like VNT15 and has a lot more on top end, the spectrum on this turbo is incredible.

I got one from GOTTUNED very nice built turbo and excellent PR ,,,would work amazing with mods you've listed, all I recommend is to get a good tuner for it and you'd be there.

I'd add a few more things, such as
-Embiggen the turbo
-Oil pump sprocket/tensioner/chain/etc change(there's info on here)
-Pistons(possibly delipped to lower CR, depending on turbo & boost)
-Better piston rings(DLC ones)
-FMIC upgrade
-Various coatings
-Intake manifold upgrade(you can also do the phenolic spacer)
-Oil cooler
-3 angle valve job
-Dual valve springs

Other/Non-engine supporting mods:
-Better clutch(depending on the power you make)
-Lift pump out of a PD car
-Better tires
-LSD
-Possibly some trans work or at least a good onceover
-GLI brakes(would need 16" or larger wheels in this case)
-Suspension refresh(yes, i mean bushings all around as well)
-Girdle(not really needed, but I bought one for mine)

Depending on the turbo, you could make a conservative 210 or closer to 245whp and have it be reliable.

-3 angle valve job
you say this as though it isn't the most basic set of cuts you can do on a valve seat to do a proper valve job

The first (middle) is to clean the seat
the second (shallow) is to set the contact point on the valve
the third (sharp angle) is to set the contact patch size to keep the valve from running cold and carboning up, or running hot and burning up

you can get fancier with 5 angle, with additional clearancing angles past the two extremes for smoother flow, but you're just as well to use a die grinder in in the ports and deck the head (or install new seats) so the valves aren't shrouded

wish I would have heard about this turbo before I bought a GTB1756vk :(

Looks to be a lot more Plug n Play and I wouldn't need to remove my ENTIRE setup to pass inspections every other year, I guess i'll be happy with the VNT-17 I just traded for.
