winter rim and tire size question

Sort of new to this.... I have a 2010 Jetta TDI and wish to put winter rims and tires on it. How can I determine what size rims and tires will work? Is there someplace I can go and get this information?
Would 205/55 R 16
5 lug 4.41 inch or 112mm High Positive Offset
work?

I don't know what "high positive offset" means. Stock offset is 48-50.
