Anyone have an intake manifold for sale?

The EGR valve on my 1997 Passat does not hold a vacuum. Bought a replacement on ebay that said the EGR was holding a vacuum...but that was not true so it is going back.

I have a 96 manifold with functioning EGR, but it doesn't have mounts for the egr cooler.

I don't really want to delete the EGR if I can find one that is functioning. So...does any one have a manifold for a 97 (with the egr cooler) they are willing to part with?

Is it the same between the ahu and 1z? I have a Jetta intake with an EGR cooler. I'll have to test it to be sure it works, but if it's the same and it works, I may be willing to work out something.

Frankly I get confused about the differences between the 96 1z and the 97 1z/AHU. The 1997 passat I have has the egr cooler, and no 5th injector.

I think the only difference between the 1996 1z manifold and the later ones is that they came with an egr cooler so the manifold had mounts for the cooler. Can anyone else clear this up?

Either way, if you have pictures of it I could tell. Don't bother if you find out that the egr is not work though.

Thanks

There are actually two or three manifolds for this base engine. The ones for engines with and without the EGR cooler are different. Part number for the cars with the cooler is 028129711T. There's also one with the same number ending in J. I think that's for the cars without the EGR cooler. I thought there was a third part number, but I can't find it right now.

I have both, I'd sell you the '97 but for the life of me, cannot locate my vacuum tester. It may be bad, since I've torched this one out before to get all the crud burned out. Most everyone has.

I have the 97 with an EGR cooler attached. I can check to see whether they are both good, I will not be needing the EGR for my application. I don't know if it was ever torched out, it came from my brother in law's car which has a pd intake now.

Thanks TDIDaveNH, the one in the bottom of the photo is the one I need but there is no point unless we can confirm if the valve works.

Mozambiquer- PM me if you can confirm the valve works.

There are just too many to list....
Easily the last half dozen of these I've had through the shop had bad EGR valves. I think by now most of them have died. The tuner ended up fixing those forever, but it kinda sucks if that is the only way around it. I think that manifold has been NLA for a while, and it was something like $400 at one time.

I guess the manifold I have must be pretty uncommon to find then. It holds vacuum well and seems to move correctly.

Both my manifolds are still going strong, not sure about the one on the spare engine.

IIRC there's a way to change over to external EGR but I can't remember what thread that popped up on. It requires getting a different manifold and then buying a new EGR. If I remember where I read it I'll post up the link.

Re EGR

For the last 7 years on both my 1996 and 1997 I have plugged the vacuum hose going to the EGR valve. Have not noticed any difference in performance or fuel economy. The 1997 takes a bit longer to get heat our of heater than the 1996.

Only on 1997 do I occasionally get a check engine light that will flash and only when it is below freezing. Never stays on.

After cleaner the intake on the 1997 never wanted to do it again. Used oven cleaner and elbow grease 5 years ago.

For what its worth I was able to bolt up the 1996 manifold and attached the egr cooler with a large hose clamp and some left over silicon tubing to pad it against the head. This will work until I get another manifold with the proper mounts for the egr cooler.
Thanks again for the help.

Well, 4 weeks later and I just went out and bought another vac tester. I think I put 5 minutes into searching for the one I know I have....that's my limit.

So yes, this EGR valve does function, it opens up and moves to it's full travel and needs right about 16.5 in/Hg vacuum to remain open.

If it's something you can still use, PM me.
