Hi all,

Looking to order a replacement turbo (yes it is bad) on my 2005 2.0 BHW Passat. One the turbo I'm replacing it says HRG 038145702G V550 & GT1749VA & 717858-7. When I look that up on Garrett's website it says it's a 717858-5007S Garrett part number.

Kerma reference p/n: 717858-5009S / 038145702G. When I look that up on garrets website it shows 038145702N. Obviously this doesn't match the turbo number on my engine.

ID Parts reference p/n: 7178585010S / 038145702G. When I look this up on garrett's website it says 038145702N.

I'm just wondering should I order the exact replacement that came off of my engine or should I order the one listed on Kerma and ID parts website? Could someone before me (210,000miles on car when purchased) have replaced with wrong turbo?

I'm ordering through a Garrett retailer here in MI. They've quoted quite a bit under what both of those websites want to charge.

What's also interesting is that on Garrett's website the remanufactured part number (717858-9010S) is the same for both.

Just a little confused and want to clarify. I don't have a service manual to refer to.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Okay, I talked to Garrett and they said those, are previous versions of that model turbo charger. Garrett said the 5007 and 009 are old revisions. Just a little tid bit for anyone else, they said if it has a 5 before the 010S this means its brand new. If it has a 9 before the 010S it means its remanufactured.
