When I ordered my 2003 they told me the 2003 model year was first year with ESP.

Are you sure it's a 2002?

Nice to see low mile ALH wagons like this pop up now and then!

Year is corrected. It is a 2003 model year, first sold late 2002.

Has this car had its timing belt service completed? Although the '03 has a 100K mile interval, this one is way overdue for time. Enough that I'd hesitate to start the engine until it's completed.

Yes, the timing belt was done (at I think around 50k).

When? Most people say 5 years is a reasonable life span, although some stretch it to 10 (no pun intended).

The interval is 100K and this car has 88K. What makes you say it is way overdue?

The interval for timing belt service is mileage or time. We changed the timing belt in our (2nd) 2003 Jetta at 50k miles because it was the original at six years of service.
