Jetta GLS, 2004, could only find silver
there is actually a handy conversion tool right on this website that will do that for you. It will also do the L/100km to US and Imperial mpg for you as well.

Here is a handy link for now, but you need only look to the top of the page and click on the unit conversions link to go to the page from anywhere on this forum.

Is this a good year Jetta? Any issue's with the vehicle I should watch for?
Sure, 2002 was a good year for TDI's.
Mine is a Golf, but my last tank was 1002 miles on 15.99 gallons, 62.7 mpUSg.

Air up your tires, ensure the air, oil, fuel filters are clean, and read the thread "Driving for better mpg".

cheers.

I made the 800 Mile club

Well I finally made the 800 mile club on my 03 A4 Golf.
57.93 Liters
815 Miles = 63.88 imperial MPG 85/15 Highway/city 60Mph
Stock 195-65-15's

I found it interesting that the low fuel light did NOT come on. The fuel needle was JUST touching the red reserve mark. Could there really have been 7 liters remaining in the tank? Seems strange that I managed to get 57.93 liters into the tank. Any thoughts?

I think most people agree that the calibration of the low fuel light illumination is inconsistent from car to car. So maybe you have less than 7 liters left in your particular car. I usually can get 15.5 gallons or so in my tank when the light first comes on, so I probably only have 1.5 gallons left at that point.

Sign me up! Where's my hat? What, we don't have a 800 mpt hat? Aaawww..

Anyway 99.5 Jetta, stock. 801.9 miles. I have a picture, but it's on a disposeable camera and I haven't gotten it developed yet.

The first 200 miles were with 4 guys and a trunk full of coolers, so I suspect I COULD have gone 850. Plus I just drove like I normally do, zero effort paid to mileage.

I am getting my timing belt changed tomorrow but when I get it back, I'll make an effort for 900 miles. I think it's possible!

Yes there could have been 7+ litres still in the tank.
I figure that the tank, fully vented, holds 65+ litres.
I have put 63+ in my tank.

So that means you should be able to make the 900 and 1000 miles clubs. See you soon.

Last night I told myself that if I hit 730 miles before the fuel light came on I'd try for the 800 mile club. At 735 the light came on, and this morning I took the car out and tried to hit 800...

Impressive.
Jeez......I still haven't hit 800 miles in my B4 Passat....:(
Try replacing your worn nozzles with some Smog 205's, driving around at 7 to 9,000 feet elevation at the 45mph speed limit in Yellowstone National Park on good fuel from Wyoming or Utah for half a tank. You should be good for a 1,000 mile tank in your B4. I know I was good for 1,200 on about 20.5 gallons, around 59 mpg.

The most I've ever put in my '02 Jetta TDI is 13.5 gallons... Best tank is about 670 miles. If I can get my mileage up to 60 mpUSg (!?!) that's 810 miles... right now my best is 55.2 mpUSg. Thinking about some new nozzles (I'm smoking on hard acceleration)...

Is it that some of you have ventectomies, and can fit more fuel in the tank?

I've heard that you get worse mileage on the last 1/4 tank of fuel. Is this true?

Wow, very impressive, have never heard of 1000 mile club for A4's. Your making me feel bad I can't get to 800. Can you give some more information on the 1002 mile tank. Driving speeds etc?

The ventectomy will help you get another 2 gallons or so in the tank: an instant 100 mile range increase. If I fill just after the low fuel light comes on I put in about 15 gallons. I've filled with as much as 16.8, and I wasn't out.

800 mile club for me too!

818.6 miles on 16.369 gallons. 50.01 mpg. That's only my second tank (lifetime) at 50 or better.

I don't know of any other 4sp automatics that have hit that mark, but I'm sure they're out there!

Bumping this one up - just wonder if there are any other automatic or DSG drivers with 800-mile tanks to their names - I have Fred, thermographer, moondawg, and myself - any others out there?

800 Plus miles per tank

I routinely get between 820 and 850 per tank in my 2002 Jetta TDi (5speed) depending on my City\Highway driving ratio. My personal best is 871.2 miles on 16 gallons of fuel. I don't employ some of the techniques others have discussed in this forum such as drafting or high tire pressure. I think the key is to maintain a steady speed, and easy acceleration of the line where most fuel consumtion per mile is used.

And A3's have 15.5 gallons, not 16.9 like A4s....so it's a bit harder for us too...

Yeah, but A3's weigh how much? 2600, 2700, and are pretty darn narrow so have a lower Cd. It's all in the numbers. How many gallons with a vented A3 tank?

EPA mileage is the same highway for A3/B4/A4 at 49 (at least that's what I'm told...)
A fully vented A3 tank is 15.5 gallons. Compare that to 16.9 on an A4.

Basically that's true but the ALH Jetta Wagon's EPA highway is 50. I love that window sticker.

I made it to the 800 Club !

Hey all !

I finally made it to the 800 mile club ! I was in the middle of the my journey from Philadelphia Pa to Kansas city ! I made 798 miles when the fuel light came on. i was tracking distance between fuel stations it it was ~ 30 miles. I didnt want to push the limits and get stuck hiking 20 miles for fuel :(

But wo cares....I made the 802 miles and...what even better.....was when I rolled in to fuel up...it was 11% BioD pump :) I also had my first guy run out and tell me I was using the wrong fuel pump and wanted gasoline and not diesel ! It was like a trio of goodness.:D

I feel bad now...cuz i prolly could have gotten ~850 miles on the tank but didnt want to get stuck. Owell...there is always the trip home!

I'll post pics whwn i can.

I chickened out today.

Was at 754 miles on this tankful and still had some gauge left in sight, but had stopped to fill up my B100 containers and they had that B10 pump there with a price of $3.04 and I knew that the way I was headed was not near any of my favorite stations. So I filled up. It only took 15 gallons.

Man, I could have made it easily.

Next time, I'm holding out for 800.

Made it!

804.1 miles and then put in 17.21 gallons. Mileage stunk though which surprised me. 17.21 gallons...is that possible? I put in 3 gallons from my blitz B100 can and then pumped 14.21 gallons of D2. I kept looking at the blitz and making sure that I pumped in 3 "hash marks" - yep. Could it have taken 17 gallons? I know I was pushing it but really!

I don't know how accurate putting a mark on a blitz can is, I assume you could be off by a bit there? For mine I do a little more work, I use a digital shipping scale and weigh the blitz can before and after fueling the car, then I know based on the weight per gallon of fuel exactly how much fuel I put in from the cans..

I actually was at the B100 pump and had an empty can and pumped 1 gallon in - marked the can, pumped another, marked the can, all the way to 5 gallons. Not incredibly accurate, but not too ridiculous.

weighing the can? okay, I'm not that over the top... :)

__. I've found a bit of variation in the amount of "total fuel" due to the amount of foam during fill. Other people using bio- have said that it seems to reduce foaming and they seem to get more gallons* in than D2. Maybe you're seeing some effect of this.

(Maybe not "gallons" and probably more like "fractions of gallons" but you know what I mean.)

This was done while driving my normal commute, thats 30mile mostly on Highway #1, the Trans Canada, on this section the speed limit is largely 56 mph, and I drive with the traffic at +/- the speed limit. Its an undulating road, and I drive to take advantage of the hills, accelearting up them and coasting down.
Last year I did three 1000+ mile tanks in a row, I am shooting to better that this year.
see the thread "60 MPG / 900 Mile Club / 1000 Mile Club".

Cheers.

Aye, nearly made 800 on my last tankfull, but I was too close to running out to make it.

Maybe this next tank'll get me there when the wife doesn't borrow it anytime. Oh, and look how much it costs us in the UK.:(
