I don't think that it will be a "project" Theo...
more than a Wagner intercooler and a chip by Johan isn't going to happen...
it will do 330 to 340bhp and more than 700Nm... why on earth would
I go and upgrade turbo's and stuff...
I really need to stop pouring all my money into my cars...
JW
lol why would you upgrade the turbos :)

I have a A5 3.0 tdi putting down some 310-330 bhp and 650 nm on a manual gearbox .. really rare .. the car still on oem turbo 2260 with a 1.7 bar max boost and 69 mg/st injection .

I like the instant torque nothing to compare with the 2 liter one that I have but I`m just thinking how hard is to work on these 3L engines whilst there is physically no room in there ..

when one of these starts going bad and you have to rip it all apart .. ohh God ..

took me 2 days to do the dpf delete ..

So actually you have around 270hp, with that amount of fueling. For 330hp you need about 84mg/str.

well diffas not sure as I have never dynoed the car and I`ll probably never do it whilst quattro dynos are hard to find but this is what revo says on their stage 2 ...

their stage 1 is 270 and 580 nm ..

can`t double check ..

no way !
I am very, very happy with the car now,
drives extremely smooth and runs very fast !

uhhm I`m thinking selling all my rides and buy a 335 :)

I think I could play a bit with one myself with some nice bb conversions and do a big f*** off low pass ..

the only downside is that it is too fu**ing tight ..

do you fit in them seats ???

I always found 3 series really tight behind the well ..

would be because I always driven audi`s ?

The seats were the reason I sold my e91. Too small. E61 LCI 530XD is my next ride ;)

Still got the old Audi. With stock turbo now tough.

BMW is more balanced than Audi. The engine is between the front and rear axles versus in front of everything as it is in Audis ;)

taking the 335d to VVT tomorrow to get a M50d dpf fitted...
my current dpf is making the car regenerate way too often and the
pressure drop over the dpf on WOT runs up to 585mbar...

for certain the v-band flange needs to be changed and a new
bracket to support the back of the dpf needs to be made...

let's see what it will bring!

sorry for the large pictures... other forums seem to display them fine...

If you are regenerating too often there can be only 2 causes, or a combination.

1: you make too much soot, either due to egr or too rich full load
2: soot model or regeneration threshold (km, time, fuel consumption, ..) cause this

a bigger dpf will generally not sole either of above causes.

If the pressure drop with a fresh regen'ed is still low enough for your linkings its a waste of effort to put the 50d unit. It will not solve any of the root causes and also the soot burn off model will not be as accurate anymore.

In mk7 tdi I run cars with 2500 km regen intervals that have only like 10 mbar deltaP at 2500 km more then after a regen. This is with a tune w around 1.1 WOT lambda and no EGR

If the calculated soot mass is always triggering the regeneration then it's in the soot model parameters that need some work like Rub does do. Usually there is plenty of room to make the interval longer.

If the measured soot mass is the trigger then the engine is actually producing too much soot (due to bad remap, or leaking EGR or some mechanical fault, including the delta-P sensor!).

The total pressuredrop over the dpf is quite high anyway... it started
at 300mbar and now it's over 500mbar all the time...
With the M50d dpf I am trying to lower the overall backpressure for the
turbo's... after all... the M50d has 381bhp stock and mine has 385 tuned...
Perhaps it's wise to fit a new lambda sensor?

The EGR cannot be at fault.. the whole EGR/cooler assembly has been removed...
Perhaps there is an injector thats on it's way out...

also... the ashes that are a result of the soot burning don't
go away and slowly clog the dpf..
it's done 270.000km ;-)

You are correct about the ash content, and over 500 mbar is too much if it's correct and sensor is not giving bad numbers. Interesting to see how it will work.

I have the AWRON display so I can watch the DPF numbers
while driving... pre dpf pressure is on par with atmospheric
pressure at no load... the pressure difference isn't measured
pre and post dpf, but pre and atmospheric...

The car was finished today and put on the dyno...
It made the 385bhp it had before and Johan tried to
get some more but this was the max...
So we just restored the power it had...
Now I've got a fresh dpf I got munch away the miles again !

Still going nice?
yep!
enjoying it every day!
the car does need some attention because of rust on the
passenger door... and had the crank damper broken on the
first day of my vacation...

as a future project I am going to build a Audi 80 competition
with a 5 cyl turbo to about 500bhp... I've already ordered
an EFR7163AL :p
