Car stutter and hesitation at low rpms

the other day it started. when i started my car. about 55 deg F, it had a skip to it. but it revved up fine. at at a low rpm where i was putting the car under load. 2nd gear 1200rpm during the beginning of acceleration it sort of jumper then stopped. it was lurching. go then stop go then stop?
what could cause this. oil change and air filter change less than 2000 miles ago. any ideas anyone. fuel filter maybe? timing belt done 30k ago. getting normal mileage for the car so it hasnt decreased to bad.
