Yeah, so I've heard. Supposedly you can get a trans into a MKII without removing all of the engine mounts but I've never been able to make that happen either. Seems like maybe its a personal problem.It can be a struggle to get the box in with the mount attached but it can be done if the engine is low enough.
Yeah, probably but I'm a play-it-safe kind of guy and the Bentley said to replace them... Somewhat ironically, I did reuse the ball joint-to-control arm bolts - I didn't have them and, at that stage of the game, I was ready to be done...Those bolts would be fine to re-use.
Anyone doing this may also want to consider taking apart the CV's and servicing them while they're out of the car. I gave the boots a good look over and decided to run them and see if they make any noise. The big end of both outer boots slipped off in the first 100miles and there's grease everywhere. Guess what I'm doing today... No insinuation that this had anything to do with Ryan - just a precaution I wish I'd decided to take. Splattered grease is such a PITA to clean up!
