Hey there.

I'm getting ready to do the BS delete on my B5.5 and just at the stage where I'm trying to do my homework and remember reading something about replacing the motor mounts and it being suggested that the OE VW mounts be used instead of aftermarket mounts. I'm just wondering if there are forum members that have used aftermarket mounts and can tell me why the OE mounts are that much better. I have a tdi vendor who can get aftermarket mounts for almost half the cost of the OE VW mounts. Is it really worth it?

Thanks.

There are more than one OEM suppliers to VW for the "OE" engine mounts, so as long as your vendor can source one of them you should be okay. Just make sure that you get the newer "improved" mounts. You should also replace the snubber at the front of the engine while you're at it.

The part numbers I was given for the motor mounts are as follows:

8D0 199 379AQ
8D0 199 382AN

I asked the vendor who makes them and he said he suspects they're made by Meyle.

What's a snubber?

Don't get Meyle. They use china junk. Buy a set from Bora or Idparts. They won't sell that crap. Don't scrimp on something as critical as MMs.

Okay... general consensus is go OE, but is there an aftermarket brand that is as good as OE with a lower price? If not Meyle another company?

You can not beat the OE quality parts. stay away from aftermarket junk unless you want to do the work twice which will end up coasting you more @ the end than what you though you saved up front . It's like pay up now or pay latter the choice is yours
