I have a 5 gallon ultrasonic bath and getting ready to swap the brakes. Both calipers and spindles got some rust on them, so I'm wondering if I'll destroy the bearings in the spindles, which seem to spin ok so far. And the calipers are getting resealed, but should I expose the bore and piston to a caustic ultrasonic solution?

What I did was degreased my knuckles and calipers and knocked all heavy rust off. Then used rust converter from Eastwood. Finished them with black encapsulator from Eastwood. They look great and and are sealed. I did put new bearings in just cuz they are out of the car and easy to do.

If you must keep the parts, I'd recommend removing anything thats soft like rubber boots and seals. Remove the bearings and hardware. Get new bearings and a caliper rebuild kit. Have the larger metal parts media blasted and cleaned up. You can use previously mentioned products to cover/protect/paint/seal it and off you go reinstalling it back. Powdercoat is a durable option as well.
