I did a quick search (here and google) and was unable to find VWAG Part Numbers for the 505/506 spec motor oils. I have available the 505.00 and 505.01 parts (listed below with labelled specs for everyone's reference) but I'd like the part numbers for both .01 parts.

* ACEA: A3, B3, B4-98
* MB: 229.3 229.1

So is this saying that 505.01 the can only meet CF oil standard ?
So CF-4 or CI is a better oil ???

A half dozen other threads are dedicated to debating questions like that.... though a good point is that just because it isn't printed on the bottle doesn't mean it won't meet a particular spec - It may not have been tested, or the test came after the label was printed.

Since the 505.01 oil was designed specifically to meet the VW spec, I doubt Castrol was particularly worried about the API specs. Curiously, it isn't labelled "Syntec", which brings another question... Is it neither true synthetic nor group III?

Of course, ever since Castrol won that false advertising suit vs Mobil over the use of "Synthetic" to describe a Group III dinosaur oil (ie. Syntec), it's been kinda hard to believe anything written on a bottle of Castrol...

Seems that the Motul and Mobil (Europe) 505.01 oils also have only the older API ratings of SJ and CF (rather than SL and CH-4 or CI-4). Also, only ACEA B3, but not B4, in at least some cases.

What (if anything) in the 505.01 rating would prevent an oil from meeting the API SL or CI-4, or ACEA B4 ratings?

What it does mean is that someone using the 505.01 oils has to be careful about using the leftovers in other newer vehicles.
