Cat temps?

Greetings -

I'm checking a few things on my DD (03 Jetta 5 speed, 355k miles) but am questioning my cat, as performance has started to resemble some clogging. I've had 2 badly clogged gasser cats in the past.

Looking at temps after driving home from work (3 minutes to change clothes), the cat temps were (using HF laser temp):
entrance: 120
exit: 120
cat body: 180

I've been told a couple things with these -
1) it should be hotter behind the cat than in front.
2) the exit of the cat should be way too hot to touch.

can anyone verify this?

thanks

so.... no confirmation but I'll assume those statements are correct. I got rid of that old cat this weekend and performance definitely improved.

If those temperatures are in Fahrenheit that is very low. I had a catalytic converters clog on my tdi. It was removed, cleaned out and put back on the car. Car runs great now. For future reference on the mk4 tdi the oxygen sensor can be removed and left unscrewed for a test. If the car runs better with it oh then you know your cat is clogging. Mine had melted in places.
