Factory motor oil

I have no idea if the factory oil is the super secret "VW break-in" oil or not. But, I think the opinion of most TDIérs is that there is no reason to change your oil any earlier than the recommended 5K miles.

Can anyone tell me what oil is in the crankcase from the factory and how many miles is considered safe before changing it the first time? The book suggests 5000, but I'm sceptical... I'm going to put Mobil Delvac 5w-40 synthetic.. any comments on this??

DEZLBOY is correct, and put the Delvac in at 5,000 miles. That's what I did. Take the oil to the dealer and tell em to put it in.
