I've been using Rotella T SB in my Ford F-250 diesel in the cold months.
The container says it's a " super premium 100% synthetic commercial oil" and " may be used where API CG-4, CF/SJ or allison C-4 are recommended as an engine, Transmission or hydraulic oil." Is there anything wrong with 0w40 instesd of 5w40. I have yet to find the 5w40.

Dodsie,
The newer Rotellas should be C-J4 oils. I have never seen Rotella 0-40 but I live on the Mexican border. Rotella 5-40 is standard fare for most of my diesel power equipment engines. It is good oil and cheap. As for as the label saying for" transmissions and hydraulic oil" that is for industrial/equipment oils not light truck/passenger engines.
What year Powerstroke are you running? Powerjokes use oil pressure for the injection pump cycle and would check my manual before using the 0-40 wt oil.

In Canada the 5w40 is very hard to come by, Shell sells the 0w40 product.

What year TDI do you have dodsie?

CG-4 is a pretty old standard :-\

I'd find something better, something 505.00 or CI-4+/CJ-4.

Hi, have you had a chance to review the requirements found in the Owner's Manual? If so, what is the requirement for this FORD diesel, Dood

my manual only gives wifferent weights of oil for different temp, with no mention of synthetics and categories CI-4 PLUS CI-4/SL or DHD-1 are preferred but CI-4 or CH-4 is acceptable. I will check with others at ford trucks.com

Dodsie, the Shell Rotella T 0w40 will be fine in your Jetta or the F-250. Canadians get the 0w40, Americans get the 5w40. Either one should be pretty good.
