Good plan. Make sure to take into account for new EPA ratings vs. old EPA ratings.

If everyone who is going to participate will let me know what vehicle they are driving, I will look up the EPA figures.

2005 Passat TDI wagon: 27 mpg c / 38 mpg h.
The "New" EAP MPG for both of our cars are now 23 c / 34 h. It's a shame that uninformed potential TDI buyers will see these new figures and think to themselves that it's not worth the extra money for diesel at those numbers. If they only knew what we already know.

Put me down for a 2005 Passat TDI sedan. I'm going to leave 2 days early and have my wife push the car all the way there  No really, I'll be using B20 like always.

And I was thinking the '05 figures were the new, revised ones.
23 / 34 / 28. Sounds like Twiggy at 8 months!

I'm In!

1997 Passat TDI: "old EPA numbers were 38/47; "new" numbers are 32/42. What a joke! The "new" numbers are so unrealisticaly LOW to satisfy complaints from "chuckleheads" that drive 90 mph and then blame the EPA for "misleading" estimates. I'm in on the contest, and will blow the "new" numbers into the next solar system!

See my sig. Coming from the Twin Cities area, driving largely at night to avoid heavy Chicago traffic.

Fraternity? Are you forgetting about us club members with X chromosomes?! Or are you just implying that girls aren't silly enough to compete in a mileage competition...(which would be a perfectly reasonable explanation for your discriminatory faux-pas.)

Just ran a full tank for the Fest. Filled with b11 in Waukeegan Il and returned to the same station with 783 miles on the OD. Pumped 14.33 (I think, not in front of me right now).

Not bad at all considering I was upward of 90 a few times keeping up with Jason's trailer so I could draft!

Lots o fun, easy trip back to WI. Almost zero traffic and not a stop through Chicago for the first time in my life. Skipped the bypass but cutting 30 to 394 just by luck. Perfect.

Hope every one makes it home safely.

I just did my calculations of my drive to the Fest and then back home. (Toronto Ontario Canada)

1090.4 km traveled before refueling just outside of Bowling Green on way back to Toronto
14.186 U.S. Gallons used

<Insert Math here>

Results:

4.925 Liters per 100 kilometers
or
47.76mpg

2001 Jetta Automatic with PP520 injectors and RC3 Tune (275,580km or 171,237miles on the OD)

First time I went over the 1000k mark on a tank :D

39.5 MPG on the way home in the ECOdiesel (through the mountains, traveling ~3500 rpms @ 70 - 75 mph the whole way).

I am excited to try on the next Fest, my commute to the fest and back was about 12 miles which I made about 6 times in 4 days and late at night on backroads of ohio, average speed around 60 including stop signs . I think my average mpg for the Fest was around 40 ;)

I'd need to see 'verification' before I'd accept these numbers Tim ... I've seen your foot in action and it's heavier than lead! :D

Hi all, Sorry for the late response, I have been in Europe for 2 1/2 weeks without cell phone or computer.

Whitedi05 I have responded to your PM's and as soon as you give me the numbers I will update the results.

Windjammer here is a link to the write up documenting my route and techniques for the fuel economy run.

I normally drive a Prius, my wife's car is the TDI. This year in for the TDIfest, I switched cars and drove the Jetta for the month prior to TDIfest and for the fuel economy run. I am back to the prius now.

I think the the 06 Jetta TDI is pretty consistant in the high 60's to low 70's MPG on the highway using just some of the basic hypermiling techniques as I described in the write up.

Also for all of you local Cincinnati people, we are having a meet up on the 12th of October in Ft Thomas, KY. We are calling it MPGfest. More on this later.

Keep us posted as it sounds interesting.

On a lessor note, I was heading back to Cincinnati on I-71 north of Columbus Ohio from a trip last week and passed a long back up of vehicles on I-71 only to find out that the car backing them all up was a VW Golf TDI with Indiana plates. It was traveling about 50 mph and I started wondering if this was a 'hypermiler' or someone who intake manifold needed cleaning?
