So what's your point?? The Fest is about friendship and comaraderie
and yes Fred get's a few bucks......;)
A slight syntax correction "Fred's (As in TDIClub/ aka Fred's TDIPage) gets a few bucks". :) I don't want to have untrue rumours starting :)

All I know is Michigan, we need to really show up at this TDI FEST, support our neighbor to the South, there is no reason we can't bring 50 cars down to the Buckeye State and support the cause. Lew you have 5 TDI's, you can bring 10% right there:D So the challenge is on. Whomever had the email list of Michigan TDI's lets get planning to show up at this one ---maybe even a convoy..

Know what would be really cool?Being they pushed the introduction of the new TDI to late summer-people who order them can pick them up at TDIFest(of course what would you do w/car you drove there)-I think that would be a cool way for VW to kick off sales of the new TDI,along w/ seeing a truckload or two of them.Hopefully I can make this years fest-will have to set aside some tax return money for this possible mini-vacation.

hey Growler, can i call dibs on your living room for sleeping quarters?

Mark,

I do NOT plan to be at my house for the fest.. I live 1.5 hours away from the site... I really dont want to have to be driving 3 hours a day during the fest and be on staff at the same time..

I will be getting a room, and sine it will only be me, (Children a bit too small to enjoy the area) I am willing to split a room 2-3 ways or so for the weekend.

Registration Info.

Hi Guys,

I am planning on attending the TDIFest 2008. This will be my first one and got a few questions.

1. Where and how do I register?
2. Are there going to be any tuners/chip guys coming?
3. If I need any work done (under supervision of TDI Geniuses). I will be a little past 80K by Aug 08, so need a TB change. I bring parts, tools I have. Is there a registry for people needing work done on thier cars?

Thanks,

1) Registration is still forthcoming. Look for a registration site to be up and going a few months before the event
2)Probably! :D
3)Get major work done beforehand. This is mainly a social event, and there is always the possibility that something could go wrong and you'd be stuck.

Fest isn't about doing car maintenance, especially not big projects. You're certainly welcome to do small things that don't have the potential to result in being stranded several hundred miles from home.

Reason number three is why I don't attend any TDI GTGs. You can arrange to have work done for free/cheap some other time. The purpose of a GTG like this is to use your hobby/like of diesel cars to create new friendships and learn more about what you love. Not to have someone wrench on your car.

Want a timing belt done? Look at the trusted mechanics list.

I personally would like to see a "No wrenching" at TDIFest rule put in place. You have 364 days out of the rest of the year to have someone work on your car.

That is essentially an unspoken rule that has been in place since the dawn of the TDI Fest. Granted, there are exceptions (as I mentioned in my last post), such as things that won't leave you stranded. Jetter Sprintah did an interior swap on their Passat Wagon in Montreal. They didn't ask for help, and they still could have made it home with no interior if they had needed to.

I'll be there.

(And, unlike the last two years, I actually WILL be there. Now that I don't have a diesel. :p)

There is also a yearly GTG that is basically a "Come here and work on your car" GTG.

Thanks for reiterating the "no major work at the TDIFest" rule. This is not the place for TB changes, IP swaps, clutches, brakes, etc. Most of the wrenching folks will be far from their toolboxes and spare parts. Besides, there is always the possibility that something WILL break while doing the work. As a rule of thumb, if you have to jack your car up to do the work, please reconsider. Besides, asphalt parking lots and jackstands don't mix.

Gurus are here for fun, not work. Many of them wrench and/or supervise at local GTGs. Plan on attending one.

Small "no mess" tasks are doable in our reserved parking lot. Folks like my son will be happy to help you with filter changes, interinjector lines, nozzles, etc.

If there is a major failure, I suspect that one of the fest staff will be accomodating with their local garage. We'll get you home in your car, if possible.

We are divvying out the tasks at this time. Good folks with areas of expertise are working even now.

Registration should be up by the first of the year, barring unforeseen problems.

Surprises are being planned. Some that y'all will enjoy VERY much.

Remember, we are trying to make this fest family friendly. Indoor pool and a stocked fishing lake on property (hotel will lend fishing tackle, you supply bait). Lots of things for older kids to do in the area of the site. Free shuttle to Kings Island/The Beach from the hotel. Ruby Tuesday's and Outback steakhouse adjoining the property. Finer fast food establishments nearby. Pizza place onsite. Malls within a few miles. Cincinnati Zoo and the US Air Force museum within 30 minutes of site.

If you want to split rooms, there is an option for two beds and a pullout sleeper sofa available.

Sorry, no honorary bartenders. Very nice pub onsite, but drinks are on you.

Questions are always welcome. Feel free to PM me or any other organizer.

Just to point out even if we open our homes/garages to help out most of us are at least 15 mins out which would make the tow cost an ugly option

Does no one believe in AAA? Maybe I just move across the country too much to be stuck without something.

Hey, my car's top folds down and the headlights pop up!

Your cars can't do that. :p
