Manual Transmission Clutch shudder

I have a brand new manual 06 Jetta TDI (300mi). The clutch seems to shudder out of first and white smoke came out (once) from under the car after going up a series of hills.(with stops).bad smell too. Does the TDI tend to have this shudder as it's a 4 popper Diesel? Anyone had this.

Bring it to the dealer and see what they say. It doesn't sound right.

OTOH, how did you get a manual in an '06? If you've got a DSG, then the shudder is something that will go away as the engine/transmission break in.

There were plenty of 06 manuals on the lot. Whats DSG?

A six-speed automatically shifted manual transmission.
I was under the impression that the choices were 5-speed auto or the DSG in the Jettas. Guess I was mistaken.
