Probably could have done without the recent new air conditioner, timing belt and EGR, but still sad to see it go today. The good deal I got on the 1.4T Jetta sort of made up for the crappy independent mechanics that didn't do much of the work correctly. Never Again.
I do miss the TDI.

......1.4 Jetta 5M test drive (with three aboard) reveals a responsive and - per Fuelly - efficient alternative to my much admired TDI wagon.

Salesman indicated his wife has one and is reporting low 40s MPG. Fuelly numbers bear that out (and more!).

How is your freeway MPG, amigo?

I kept the newer weather mats and velcro cargo holders, gave them to my friend who has a Jetta. I took photo's of her at the house and then one on our way out of the dealership. I was a little sad and then I ordered my Jeep Wrangler and I wasn't so sad anymore. I absolutely love what I drive again, so much fun.

Not bad. Too early to tell. The gas gauge does seem to move faster than it did on the TDI.
Driving it very gently and smoothly. Seems to be breaking in nicely and is actually a pretty nimble and light car.
Starting to like it more and more and glad to not have to be dealing with any mechanics; likely ever again for any reason.

Turned my '10 JSW today. I was very relieved when the specialist told me it wouldn't be crushed. It's in great shape with only 55k on it. Would have been such a waste. Now that it's gone i can start driving my '15 GSW TDI.

Did they also tell you they take them to endless smooth as glass golden highways with unlimited high centane diesel, and copious tail winds so it will get 50MPG for year and years to come?

I wish mine will go on to happy pastures, but at 140K, I have accepted its fate.

I did put a label on the engine bay, "TB and WP changed out at 119K" hopefully someone sees that and gives it a reprieve from the crusher.

And I probably will be very sad and may well up a bit

740, how jaded of you ! :)

I wish we knew what criteria is used to decide the ultimate fate of the bought-backs.
I think ~40K is the cutoff mileage, and it will only be '15 that could evade the mega PSIs.

G1 and G2 will be trickling to crushers, fresher '15 on delay, hoping dealers will nibble at them. But, there's only so much interest out there ...

Our buyback was emotional, with my wife shedding some tears. She plans to cruise through the Dealership today to see our '10 JSW 6M one last time. My wife is now behind the wheel of a '17 Golf Wolfsburg 5M, so all is not lost.

I'll miss hanging around TDIClub. Lots of good people here.

mine's going back the 24th.
need to pull some souvenirs from it. but it looks like i'll be towing it part way and limping the rest. keeps giving a short circuit codes and runs horribly.
was a little sad pulling all my stuff from it recently, only had the car for about 2 years. guess i feel bad mostly because it was a gift from my folks.

but i got my replacement, an '03 golf TDI. so maybe won't be too bad.

Just weird. After selling my last two VWs with around 300k on them here I am disposing of a 48k mile car with zero dings or anything wrong. It doesn't seem right, but between the buyback deal and the almost $8.5k off the stop-sale Sportwagen it became a no-brainer. If Mazda got their CX-5 diesel out sooner I may have jumped ship.

At 140K the Jetta car had just about half the miles of my previous two Volvos before they met their demise.

The 740 had 350K, and the 960 had 235K.

Was going to keep our 2011 Jetta and wait for the fix, but wandered into the dealer when I heard that the 'new' 2015's were available. Salesman said they had only one left without a deposit on it (for what that's worth). Anyway, he brought it around to show me. It was black on black, just like our 2011 that my wife liked so much. Buyback price was within a couple hundred dollars of the new one, with its discount. It was a shame to see such a nice car go away (our first new car) but we still have a black TDI Jetta in the garage, one 4 years newer, with 94,400 fewer miles, a better engine, and a better warranty. Oh, and the 2011 had had $15,000 worth of body work done after a kid in a Mustang turned left in front of us. Plus we had almost $1000 on hand from another kid hitting the back of us at an intersection 2 months ago.. Add in the $1,000 'goodwill' gift from VW, and all we had to pay was some of the sales tax.
All in all, we came out way ahead, thanks to some bureaucratic huffing and puffing over ruffled feathers at EPA. Real world pollution from VW's TDI was and is practically nothing, just a political football.

today was the day for my '12.
Gave it a big hug. Thought about my '15 that I saved from a lot of no return and that kept me from welling up.

Took her for one last drive, went up 93 to the Kancamangus, hit triple digits a few times, snow tires felt pretty planted at that speed.

In the 140k miles i've driven her, I never romped on the car as much as I did that 150 mile trip, she loved it too, MPG was mid 30'd when I turned it in.

End of the month the '12 Passat will be going back as the registration and inspection are up, so is the 80K service.
