Rising oil level

I have a four year old Golf Estate 1.9 tdi pd which suffered from a rising oil level on the dipstick, diesel would leak in and it would rise by as much as an inch in a week. My garage changed the injector seals for £300 which achieved nothing. This forum put me on the track of the Tandem pump. It turned out to be the oil seal between the two back to back pumps, it had a shredded tension ring. So now I have a new Tandem pump which was easy to fit, I just hope I got it in time before the engine was damaged by the diluted oil.

Diesel fuel is a very good solvent for most other petroleum products, oil included.
