FYI: VW Credit and Titles

- purchased '15 TDI GSW S in May 2015 (best vehicle ever purchased!)
- have had the two emissions modifications done
- paid off the small VW Credit loan in Jan 2018
- checked our state DMV (FL) for a copy of the title, assuming it was there

- NO TITLE!!!!!


turns out that VW Credit never sent us (or the state) a payoff letter or the title!!! Florida is an electronic title state, so *usually* a vehicle's title is in the DMV computer system (you can get a copy or you can hold onto your own title)


called VW Credit last week with all the requisite info (old account number, payoff amount, when paid off, VIN, etc.)


"Oh, we're sorry. We'll overnight you your title."


- five days later (today) we got the payoff letter and title by FedEx


good thing we didn't try to trade in our TDI (which we'll never do, BTW)!


- so i guess my caution is: If you live in an electronic-title state and pay off your VW Credit loan, make sure you get your payoff letter and title - we assumed that the state would have been updated, which is the way it worked with a previous Ford loan 10 years ago...

Never assume. If you pay off the loan request the letter and title immediately. One reason a local lender is sometimes better as this can be done in person at the same time as the loan payoff is done.
