Just a quick comment or two to anyone going through this thread...

I have seen posts in the past by people who have gotten the impression that TDIclub has been 'ruined' by members who are 'in it just for the money.' To that I would say, who better to work on your car than people who spend endless hours reading, posting, helping, and generally SUPPORTING this website? (Hint: Do a search on their alias)

Here's another thing to consider: Unlike traditional mechanics who exist pretty much beyond a focused online location, the mechanics who hang out here or are recommended by club members put their reputation on the line every time they do work. Satisfaction has to be a priority, or else their name goes up in flames in a cyber-moment right here on TDIclub if they do anything as stupid as we typically hear about from the dealers.

This doesn't guarantee that you'll fix your car for the least amount of money, or even in the first try if your issue is complex, but you WILL get competent, interested, good-faith work done on your car.

BeetleGo,
Can I use those paragraphs as the opening disclaimer? I like the way you worded things. Check my post and if you like it I'll keep it, if you don't I'll remove it...
Thanks,

Here are a few in Seattle WA that I have heard good things about (though this is not my firsthand experience--nobody touches my cars except me!):

AutoVice in Lynnwood

BugAid on Aurora in North Seattle (have talked to/bought parts from these guys and like how they work)

Fine Tuning Performance (have talked to owner and seems to know his stuff)

Horst Fischer has worked on my 1998 Jetta TDI for many years, I have 257,000 miles on it (he must be doing something right). I'm not sure if he has a VAGcom, though.

I'd add for Nevada - Automotion/Compac Car, Reno, 775/322-7223. They know TDI and provide excellent service.

Default NY state anyone??

review Heart VW in Kingston, NY: recommended.
fully serviced my injection pump under warranty, and really knew what they were talking about. My friend's Jetta TDI also serviced for warranty stuff (check engine light, etc) and had a good experience. I've heard some negatives for their service on gassers, but TDIs seem to be taken care of very well there. If out of warranty, though they're $85/hr.

Powder Hound is in Phoenix, AZ. He does timing belts, not sure what else. Perhaps he can be asked whether he wants to be listed here.

German Auto Tech in West Memphis, AR is listed as being in Arizona, not Arkansas.
