EGR cooler deleted, right?
How it has been deleted? Was it physically removed? What happened with the coolant plumbing to/from EGR cooler? There is a separate circuit for EGR cooler, driven by electric motor. The flow of the coolant goes in one way when the t-stat is closed, and the opposite way when it opens. Pretty tricky setup, I'd say. In fact, if you delete the EGR cooler, you can remove the entire EGR coolant plumbing... Need to refer to schema to find out how things work there..

So the question:
Is coolant plumbing OK?

What about coolant plumbing for EGR cooler? Has it been altered? Removed?

Are you able to do some logging with VCDS and share the logs?
Be sure to include coolant temperature (G62), vehicle speed and engine speed in the log.

Forgot to include the speeds, but as you can see in the 3rd column of numbers above, this displays the coolant temperature of the car. I wouldnt have been doing any more than 50 MPH as it was all uphill driving on a windy, narrow country road.

Holy crap, it really gets hot..

1) Does this happen each time you drive it?
2) Does the coolant light get ON when this happens? Does the tremperature gauge needle move any further past the 90*C mark?
3) Does the coolant fan ever comes on? Can you check and confirm it working by activating output tests in Engine module? If you choose Sequential tests, one of them should be for the radiator fan
4) If you turn the cabin heat to 26 *C (or whatever highest temperature)m fan speed to MAX and roll all the windows down, does this help the case at least a bit?
5) After a drive, check the coolant hoses. Are they rock hard? (before doing that, either wear gloves or allow the car to cool down a bit to avoid burns)
6) Coolant expansion tank. When you slowly unscrew the cap, what happens? How much pressure is there? What happens on that moment with the coolant level?
7) Next time you do logging, you want to include vehicle speed which you missed this time. Also, it would be great if you could include more coolant temperatures, particularly G83 (if I'm not mistaken) which is coolant temperature at radiator outlet, sth like that.
Also, would be great if you could search the Measuring Values for V178 operation/status or anything related to that and also add to logging. V178 is an electric motor primary designed for EGR cooler but it also supposed to work on overheat conditions. Would be useful to see how it behaves. This is it: http://workshop-manuals.com/volkswa..._circulation_pump_2v178_(golf_passat_touran)/

In short, please review 1-6 questions and do one more logging as per #7

Re #5. You want to squeeze the large pipes going to/from the radiator.

Nope, this cooling system does not need any additives, only compatible coolant such as G12++ or G13

V178 in the Measuring Values might be named as coolant circulation pump or sth similar to that... It is possible that there isn't any block for that too...

You mentioned that the new thermostat was fitted.
Now the cold top hose (assuming you're looking at the right one) indicates the t-stat is stuck closed.

Are you sure you have the correct thermostat replaced (if at all)?

There should be two thermostats, one for engine, another for DSG. Just asking for confirmation that the right one has been done...

Hi. I fixed the same problem by bypassing the internal heater matrix. Car doesn't over heat anymore. Sounds bizarre but it works. Its apparently a common thing with 1.6 tdi CAYC engines. Due to the way water flows through the cooling system. It has to also flow through the heating matrix to cool the engine down. So before you change anything it will be worth bypassing the heater matrix to make sure its not blocked.
