Hi guys,
spotted a small collection of diesel fuel underneath my injection pump? Can someone tell me where it is likely leaking from? I have never taken a pump apart so I am unfamiliar with how big of a job it is to do so. I have also attached a photo. Any pointers?

With the car running, look at the pump. Could be the top seal. Could also be weak braided injector lines.

On my car, the #2 injector metal line as a bit loose, so fuel was also spraying the hood liner. The puddling on top of the injector have it way.

A good place to start would be to clean things off so that you can see from where the leak originates.

If the car is a 99.5 car it is liable to be leaking from all the rubber sealed joints. (at least the black rubber ones)
It is not a huge job but if you are not familiar with the insides of the pump you could disable the car in a hurry. There are a few tutorials out there for doing reseals both on and off the car.

Here is a link to the seal kit:

Here is one for replacing the top and bottom seals on the quantity adjuster

And in this link is a method for changing the pump head seal without pump removal:

Anyway you wind up doing it, you are likely to throw off the settings of the fuel quantity. The best way to approach this is with VCDS software/interface cable to check and adjust the pump after surgery.
If you don't have it you might have a car that either will not start or may run away when you start it up. Depends on your mechanical skills. The adjustments are rather touchy.

I agree with^^^ if you don't have VCDS you may have problems. If you are going to replace the seals, making an alignment mark on all four sides will go a long way to getting the correct IQ reset.

If you can get the replacement seal set with Viton seals, even if it costs a few dollars more, get the Viton seals. I don't know if your state has mandatory blends with Bio-D, but if it does Viton seals are cheap insurance. At the "mandatory" percentages of some states (B2-B5 normally) the Bio-D percentage is low enough it should not cause any issues with pump seals either now or later.
