Just turned 99398 miles on my 2011 Sportwagen and the Check Engine Light came on. This is the first time I've seen the CEL since I bought the car at 21k miles. The car had the fix done in September 2017.
A few days ago I had to run an errand of 4 miles one way and when i shut it off after the first 4 miles I heard the fans running, so it must have started the regen. I stopped for about 10 min and after coming home 4 miles again, I believe I heard the fans running again. Then I did a 30 min drive and shut it off. Then another 15 min drive, stop 15 min and 15 min drive back. No CEL at that time that I can recall. This morning I turned the key on a few times to pair a new phone to the car and when I started the car I noticed the CEL.
What do you guys think? Should I try a longer drive to see if it would do a regen successfully and turn the CEL off? I would hate to drive the 70 miles one way to the dealer only to find that the thing fixed itself by the time I got there. I attached some info below from VCDS related to the DPF.
Thanks.

I am not aware of the specific causes of the below threshold errror.

but this is not because the DPF regen is not happening.

your data indicates normal, 60 miles after a good regen. the ash load is right as we expect, but mostly irrelevant.

the soot loads are right on the money, would expect to continue up another 5 or 6 grams, then fire off a DPF regeneration.

the fault frequency will increase every time the ECU software runs the test for which has a possible output your P2002 error.

If it was me, I would check with VCDS in a couple drives, see if that fault frequency number goes up, then make the drive to the dealer, after calling for an appt. (or e-mail the service department, and attach the log above. not sure they are willing or capable of getting info this way, but it might let them be ready and not make you wait for too long to get the service completed.)

I drove it a bit to see what would happen. After the first longish drive the fault frequency remained at 4 so I thought that it would fix itself. But after the second drive the frequency of the fault shot up to 17, so it was time for a visit to the dealer.

They replaced the DPF, all on Volkswagen dime. If the new DPF lasts another 100k I will be happy.

Mike, thank you for the advice.
